Not sure what they are called so I cant search a supplier. 1" threaded rod, right hand threads on one side, left hand on the other, with some sort of flat in the center to twist with a wrench. I see them all over the place, but dont know the exact name, smaller may work as well, but I really need at least .75"

You can get cheap ones from trackter, ranch supply stores for three point hitches.

Out of curiosity, could you TIG two grade 8 bolts together to do this? Not much of a "should you do it" but "could you do it and trust it?"

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/116/3163/=5z9a06

here are some options for 3/4" right and left handed studs click on "catalog page" for more lenght options

Edit: Crap, the link won't go to the part i've been finding. click on studs and threaded rod, then equal lenght threads right and left hand, and then pick 3/4-10 to get some length options.

Depends on the application, if you need the full strength of a 1" gr8 bolt, I wouldn't do it unless you're really checked out on the tig. and even then, you're losing the heat-treat on the bolt, and finding LH threaded gr8s can be problematic.

If you have to make one, using threaded bungs and tube would be the better solution, essentially a link or tie-rod.

FWIW OSH sells large turnbuckles around here, not sure about 1", but fairly giant.

Thanks for all the info, im going to check with a couple of our bolt supplies, but I found some really trick 34/" stainless ones, but I think im going to need them at least an 1". It for a rear cage brace on an import car that is removable, but when its put it it has to have about an 1" of adjustment to clear other crap in the trunk.

That would only work if one of them was left hand thread.
