: should I buy a CUCV?
BeefCakeScout 02-25-2010, 08:21 PM I have an extra grand coming and wanna put it in the scout. I was thinking new tires or a doubler, but then it hit me, I can buy a used CUCV and get good axles. Then I can sell everything else and make some of my money back. Good deal?

IDScout 02-25-2010, 08:33 PM I vote YES
JetFxr 02-25-2010, 08:35 PM I bought one and moneyed up. They have low miles most of the time and great axles. Pickups to be sure, I swapped out the 60 for a 44 front and a matching 14 bolt, then sold it for more than I paid to begin with. For sure you need to tell the person you sell it to that it has had some changes, but the farmer that bought mine was all about the diesel:homer: If you can get in the cucv right its a no brainer, I paid 1800 for the one I bought did the swap and sold it for 3200 and had enough cash left over to do top steer and disc the 14 bolt, :smokin:
uglyscout 02-25-2010, 08:48 PM I say yes. Get the axles for cheap and have some stuff leftover.
BUT be careful, nothing is selling on CL in my area right now. I tried to offload my Chevy dually 454/400/205/60/70 after I bought it and got ZERO interest even when I had it all the way down to $1500.... The truck ran and drove, and still no takers. Had it for sale for over 6 months.
I parted it out and had a hell of a time selling even the sheetmetal. Nobody is spending money on anything 'extra' as far as I can tell. Your area may be different and it might sell no problem. But just be warned.
I ended up hauling 90% of the dually to the scrap yard and making less than $400 parting it out. :mad3: But I did get a 60 front, 454/400/205 out of the deal :D So in the end I was happy. I had just 'planned' to come out money ahead - not money behind.
Binder 02-25-2010, 08:59 PM If you buy a CUCV from government liquidations for the first time allow extra time for red tape.:(

I spent almost 2 hrs lookin at that site the other day
BeefCakeScout 02-25-2010, 10:00 PM I was at sharpes depot (thats french camp on gov't liquidation) talking to the guy and he said drivers usually don't go for over 1200 bucks, and "doesn't run"s go for around 600. If I cab get into it for 7-800 bucks i'll be fine with scrapping everything else. its still a fair deal for a 60-14 combo.
Diesel Smoke 02-25-2010, 10:03 PM What kind of diesel 6 cylinders did they put in those? I thought they were all 6.2L's ??

They are 6.2's.

Okay, then the ad must be wrong.
JERM83 02-25-2010, 10:50 PM Go for it!:D
theycallmefudd 02-26-2010, 05:48 AM There's a guy here that has 2, one bought sight un-seen off of one of those gov. auction sites for 1,800 the other one he bought at the local "base" for 500.00 and its in 10 times better shape. There is another guy out here that bought one of those 50's - 60's dodge trucks with what looks to be Rock's under it for 800.00 - silent auction from some citys surplus equipment. They have 3 more and the dude working there said he could have offered 300.00 and taken it, but for 800.00 not bad and he drove it home... I would just look around you can do some serious damage w/ 1000.00 bucks..... besides who wants the 6.2 anyway?

No one gives a rats ass about the 6.2L, it's the 60 and 14 bolt combo everyone wants.
MochaMike 02-26-2010, 10:43 AM There were two up by Grass Valley (some depot or something) that sold just before Christmas. One for $500 the other $800.
I would have jumped on one but, but finals & remodeling for Xmas kept me busy.
Damn Holidays.
wagman 02-26-2010, 01:56 PM Yeah go for it. If you find one with an H in the 4th digit of the VIN theres a pretty decent chance it will have limited slip in the front 60 and could even have a NP205 case.
These are cool rigs & I've had a blast with the one in my avatar.
Blind Driver 02-26-2010, 03:36 PM The CUCVs typically sell for at least $2k in non-running condition.
I gave up looking at them.

No shit.... I bought my 60 for 300.00 and 14blts are free... I personally have thrown away 3 14blts in the last 2 years.... if thats the case its really not a good deal:flipoff2:
BeefCakeScout 02-28-2010, 10:20 AM well find me a 60/14B for 300 bucks and i'll delete this thread like it never existed.

HP kingpin 60- ford down the street 500.00....... My point is there are alot of broke dicks out there and right now 3-5 hundo is a lot of cash for lots of people, obviously you don't want th 6.2 so why buy the hole cow when you can get the milk cheaper. You want one I'll find you one within the month but findin shit is what I like to do :grinpimp:
BeefCakeScout 03-01-2010, 12:59 PM I'm thinkin i'll go with a new plan, since I really don't wanna junked out CUCV in my yard......and I'm sure the LL doesn't either. My buddy has a DD KP 60 in a tow rig. I talked him into trading me the 60 for a HD44 and some springs that he desperately needed(and i'll do the swap for him). So, I need to find an HD44 for cheap. This should leave me enough money to get tires or a doubler.....i'm leaning toward tires(used).
theycallmefudd 03-02-2010, 05:50 AM That sounds like a good deal!!!!:D
BeefCakeScout 03-02-2010, 01:44 PM it did!!! til i found out that nobody is getting rid of DD hd44's! futhermuckers!
