: What fooking carb do I have?
Few Questions: Is running 85W140 Gear oil in my diffs going to cause any probs? How bout winter weather affecting this
I always thought the carb I have was a Hyundai Pony carb. It looks identical to the ones on the net. But the choke on it, is not manually operated. Rather its controlled by coolant flow into carb,so I was told it can't be a Pony carb. The carb make says Mikuni(but its not a Sammi carb no computer shit). What fawking carb is this? could it be an Sj410 carb because my rig is an SJ that someone upgraded with a 93 Swift 1.3 single cam motor. Guy that built it ain't around to ask. Anyone know what fookin carb I've got?:p
Bobzooki 10-09-2002, 06:05 AM Geez, newbie! I can't even begin to wonder how you chose that user name... You have a MIKUNI carb. This is NOT rocket science!
Nice name. Juvenile :flipoff2:
SilverZuk 10-09-2002, 08:38 AM Golly-gee must be one of those Holley Double pumpers, they all say Mikuni.
The 85W140 gear oil will definately eat your bearings up.
Drain it immediately and replace with umm, tap water.
I like to mix my gear oil with water and mud, its easy to do with the stock vent caps. After your diffs get real crunchy you'll have an excuse to swap in some different axles.
From one newbie to another Welcome:flipoff2:

whats his name 10-09-2002, 05:31 PM Ok I'll try again . So I have a Mikuni carb, but its not a Samurai carb, so what is it an SJ410 carb?
Will there be any probs like cold wheather, running 85W140 in the diffs. I will try the mud and water like the other guy said but I don't really want to wast good mud:p Becoming a cunt in the first place wasn't my fault result of freind drinking and keyboarding . Let this be a lesson: friends don't let friends drink and keyboard.

first of all, you stated you bought it with some pretty major modifications already done to it. therefore it's entirely possible that the carb you have may be from some other weird application as well- if it were me i wouldn't go chasing too far down a single alley looking for info until i REALLY had a good long look at the carb in question.
you have not supplied very much info to go on, so people are either unable to help, or giving you the gears because they think you are expecting to get all the answers without any effort on your part.
are there any part #'s on the carb? is there actually the name Mikuni cast into the metal? what is the throat diameter? does it have an electric choke or manual? have you asked at Lordco/Napa? have you typed in suzuki carb sj410 mikuni in Google? etc etc. people aren't psychic, and if they're just guessing, do you really WANT to rely on the info they give you?
if you begin asking questions that are vague, with the user name CUNT, and any attitude, give youself a shake for not expecting some razzing!
have you got a particular hard on for this diff oil, or what? man, the stuff costs like what, 10.00 for the good synthetic shit- do you HAVE to use this molassass you've got? what is your reasoning for using it? is it a logical one or just because it's there?
the quickest way to get bumped off into oblivion is to start ragging on this BB, when you have only made 2 posts- there are some here with thousands of posts(like me:D) that still get razzed. take it in stride! don't whine! initiation! in good fun!
Will there be any probs like cold wheather, running 85W140 in the diffs.
what is "cold"? where are you? Abhu Dabhi? Arctic Circle? Vancouver? expected to run in below freezing temps? daily driver? trail only?slop in the diffs you are trying to compensate for? if your diffs leak at all, are you going to continue to buy the heavy stuff for top ups, or just use what you can get?
i'm sorry i can't help you with the carb problem, and my response to the diff oil is it's too heavy for what I consider "cold" weather application.

see the above. don't complain, take it like a man, and realize that most of the more "objectionable" stuff is/should be in chit chat, not in the vehicle specific sections. there are always exceptions, people being what they are-but for the most part some good natured bullshitting here and there makes the tech a little less dry and humourless.

Get the carb info and post it.
No the gear oil won't cause you any problems in cold weather.
I run the same stuff, off the shelf from Advance Auto.
I change it two or three times a year because of getting water in it through seals (I have already replumbed my dif vents, you should do the same if you play in mud).
A heavier oil is better under extreme applications - locking differentials, limited slips (you need an additive), and general hard use.
Uzi,
I'll give you two guesses as to who it is...
Swampmon..., er whats his name, I warned you about coming here and asking questions without searching or doing your homework. These are a good bunch of guys that no more than most. They learned the hard way and expect that everyone else should too (and reasonably so). Sometimes I wish the other board was more like this 'cause some of the ques that come up there are just plain :rainbow: .
Because I told you about the site, I'll 'splain a few things.
You are a newbie. That means you have to earn your stripes. First you get a pirate welcome (aka the pirate salute) ex. :flipoff2:. And then you spend a whole bunch more posts getting trashed (unless of course you've done your homework and come with something inteligent or useful to say) as the rest of your initiation.
Like I said these guys are good guys and know a ton. So take it like a man and you'll learn a lot.
Welcome newbie, to a higher learning
:flipoff2: :D

These guys learned the hard way. This is only computer land ok. The 'shop attitude" gets a little old. I've worked in shops many years and know the routine ok. Was just asking a few simple questions and researched things myself before I came here but couldn't find what I was trying to figure out. Sure are alot people who seem to think they walk on water, take a look in the mirror you probably won't find perfection. Thank You SilverZuk. All I can figure out is that its a single Mikuni Downdraft with a coolant operated choke. It has the glass window for fuel bowl level. Maybe its about a 40-44mm size? No other markings except stamped Mikuni Corp Japan.

Actually no, I don't have anything better to do that's why I follow you around and try to help you out. :flipoff2:
If you read my post again, I was trying to help you out.
BTW, I'd say 40-44mm bore size is likely a slightly big bore size. About 38mm or less is probably a more reasonable estimation (considering the usual single performance carb -- a webber-- is a 32mm). But what the hell do I know. I'm too busy looking in the mirror... :D :flipoff2:
It's a Joke so lighten the fawk up! :flipoff2:
