ok, i'm new here so flame away, but i got a 84 CJ and i wanna build a dual purpose rig, to wheel but still be able to drive, which means no full widths ect... plus i'm freakin poor so heres what i had planned so far, any input is appreciated

i wanna go w/ probably a EB 9" in the back, stock front for now, spring over w/ i dunno yj springs all around, i wanna keep the D300, i gotta t5 right now, so i gotta ditch that, um i wanna go w/ a v8 but don't have the coin and would rather work on the drive train 1st and worry about motor later, i can always gear down... so i'll probably be using the ole I6, anyways thats what i go, what do ya think??

now i'm sure i'll probably get flammed for not mentioning 60's or 39+ tires, or an atlas or what ever is the going trend right now, like i said, i'm poor, and i wanna drive it once in a while, and its no comp rig so there it is, thats it... i think....

Well, Dana 30 front is about as LAME as it gets, but you can get out of that pretty cheap. The EB 9" is a decent choice, that's what I run, but that's also what I had around. A Scout II 44 rear would also be a good choice, although both of them are around 58.5" wide, so you'll get that sweet dragster look with your stock front, may I suggest a pre '79 Wagoneer Dana 44 front? 60" wide will still be mostly under your Jeep, and function well with the rear width, they can be had super cheap if you look around, often you can get the whole rotted out Wagoneer from a private owner for less that the axle at junkyard. You could also score a cheap running AMC 360 in the deal. SOA on YJ springs with a couple extra leaves, a good anti-wrap bar in the rear, and you're out on the trail.

44's sound good to me, any suggestions on a tranny?

Yeah, 44's sound great. For a tranny, add a TF999 or 904 auto, they can be used with your 300. That will save some coinage.

That setup with the I6 and 35's will be perfect. Good balance of power and weight. If you want a v8, then you may have to dump the 44's for 60's. That depends on how you drive.
