I was told last weekend that a 6011 rod is the choice rod for welding diffs but ive done tons with a 7018- 100% success rate so far. Anyone use this 6011 for diffs ? Id try it but i wont be the fukn ginnee pig. Who uses what ? My vote goes to the 7018.

i would think that 6011 would have to much splatter. i've never done it myself just a thought.

i've welded up a 10 bolt chevy with 6011's.....yeah they splatter a bit but what does it matter?......just gotta keep it off the center pin and bearings....that's about it.....i think the holding strength has more to do with how it's welded than the type of rod....

I haven't done it either. Both might work, but aren't 6011's for mild steel and 7018's for high-carbon steel? IMHO, I would think 7018's w/DC+ would be the best.

What I remember from the one welding class Tuskdaddy and me took was 6011 had the better penetration........................:D

7018 can be used and should be used when the metal is rusty dirty or un clean but both have the same penetration!

7014 1/8th rod is mint for diffs , 7018 is a great all purpose rod also. Im not a big fan of 6010 / 6011 burning my self to shit with the splatter.

Id have to disagree dude, holding strength has alot to do with the rod, just like mig vs fluxcore. 7018 seems to be good for steel and alloy, its recommended for 4340. I think i'll stick with the 7018.

i discovered i'm even WORSE at welding with wire feed flux core than i am with stick welding. i didn't think i could GET any worse.
i was wrong, but i'll keep at it.:D

if it's welded well enough with a 6011 there's no reason it won't hold :flipoff2: hell.....i bet i could make it hold with enough J fawkin B weld:D

Dump that flux core and go gas shield Youll be very happy When the bottle goes empty Id rather pick up the stick then waste time putting that flux core in the machine
