: Does a full spool in a 8.8 need CCE's?

Searched and I can't find a definite answer. Going to throw a full spool in my 8.8 with disc brakes. Some people say don't run c-clip eliminators because the side load will destroy them and that the discs will hold the axles in. Others say run them, but only certain brands of cce's will hold up. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm pretty sure that by having a full spool, you'll have no way to get any C clips actually on the axles.

A quick google search showed me that letting the rotors/calipers hold an axle in is maybe okay in a mild drag car, but not with lots of HP and especially not w/ offroad use w/ heavy side loads. You'll rip the caliper bolts right out of the bracket more than likely. Or break a caliper in half. Something bad.

You need C clip eliminators, which will replace the outter wheel bearing with one that gets pressed on, much like a D44 is stock. It will take maybe 10-15 tons of pressure to get them on so they will hold your axle in just fine, no stress on your brake components. The people that do the ghetto c-clip removal and leave it are half-assing it.

You'll need to find out if they're compatible w/ discs though, most I found were for drums or didn't specify one way or the other.

Here is a Strange C-clip elim, it says you need to use Strange axles too though:

Even though C clips suck, it looks like a mini-spool would be cheaper and it still has a cross-pin in it so you should be able to remove it, push the axle shafts in, then remove the c-clips.

Yep, you'll need a C-Clip eliminator to run a spool in your 8.8.

Get Superiors Super 88 kit. It's very well designed. Here's a link -

Would an answer from someone who helped on the Super 88 kit be of any benefit to you? :p

Not all CCE's are created equal. Anyone that says they will get destroyed is correct in general because they won't handle the side loads you see when you've got your rig laid over going through a wedgy place.

If you run the Super 88 kit, you're getting the same bearings in a billet steel housing end that are used in the Ford 9" Big Bearing ends. They are Timken Set 20's and will handle any side loads you can throw at them.

They will also work with a full spool and essentially are 4340 Ford 9" axles with beefed up flanges without c-clips.

Have you put any thought about a mini spool? I know they are not as strong.

Thanks everyone. I had thought about a mini spool, but I've had bad luck with them in the past with wear on the blocks causing slop over time. Looks like I'll grab a Super 88 kit and do it right. Thanks again.

Or you can put in an Aussie. That's the route I took.
