I searched, no luck.
I am doing some leg work for a friend that is having trouble finding a low mile tranny for his POS nissan. I suggested that he try to swap in a tuffer (read that: better) domestic tranny like a t-4 or 5. Even an AX-15 would be an improvement. The Nissan is a 5-speed 4wd and it keeps eating the trannies. I believe it is a 4 banger. Does anyone know of some adapters or alternate drivetrains for him. A matched t-case is okay too is the driveshafts don't have to change much.
So what do ya'll have?
Tim
(Who doesn't like Nissans therefore doesn't remember anything that he might have learned about them.)

Just looked at Advance Adapters. Nothing there either.
It is hopeless, I am going to tell him to buy a Jeep. :D
:flipoff2: For the inevitable insults coming. :D

well for a perspective from a Nissan person.
The trannies do suck. There isn't anything that will"easily" bolt up, and no-one short of a machine shop will make an adaptor for it.
SO you friend will be stuck replacing trannies, swaping out a bunch of the driveline, or getting a new rig.

From ANOTHER Nissan guy,
Swap out the engine, tranny, tcase, and axles for something worth running. I'm thinking 4.3, 700r4, dual toy cases (they make that adapter don't they?) and either Toy axles or something better.

What year? What engine?
MOST of the RWD 4 cylinder and V6 motors share a common bell housing (built into some trannies, other can unbolt and swap). So the later L28 Turbo used a T5 tranny to withstand that engine. Just thinking that a T5 SHOULD be able to swap in, and fit the motor end... ZERO idea on bolting up to the transfer case as I haven't messed with 4x4 Nissan's.

Other notes about the Nissan fitted T5 can be found here (http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/borg.html)
I do like Nissan's.... but the gear boxes in the trucks are not the best. :( For fun, I like Datsun/Nissan RWD... For 4x4... I use a Toyota!

Thanks everyone for the help. I will pass the info on.
I might add that it is an '89. I am not sure of the motor.

hmm, not sure about the tranny and t-case but it seems we get some beefy nissan axles down here in Aus:
GQ Patrol 88-98 cab chassis rear 1.51" 37 spline
GQ Patrol 88-98 front 1.26" 31 spline
GQ Patrol 88-98 rear 1.31" 33 spline
GU Patrol 98 on diesels rear 1.51" 37 spline
GU Patrol 98 on front 1.26" 31 spline
GU Patrol 98 on rear 1.31" 33 spline
MQ Patrol front 1.2" 29 spline
MQ Patrol rear 1.26" 31 spline
MQ Patrol rear 1.51" 37 spline
Navara 1.31" 33 spline
nissan 1.25" 30 spline
Pathfinder 86-97 1.26" 31 spline
Just didn't want everyone thinking all things nissan are junk.
Need something else in the front but I'll take some 1.51" 37 spline rears, thanks :)

'89 was a transition year for the four cylinder motor.
From '82 (?) to '89 (mid year?) had the Z24 engine.
From mid'89 to '95 (96?) had the KA24E (single cam)
The V6 engine (VG30) was an option from '85 until '95 or so.
If he is having tranny problems, I suspect an early '89 Z24 motor. The tranny they fitted behind that motor didn't do too well in the trucks. Still that bell housing is shared by the VG30... so it would seem a tranny out of a VG30 4x4 would fit...
Z22 and Z24 motors have a funny habit of blowing the head gasket between cylinders... no external leak, nor water leak. The compression/ignition between them will wear a GROOVE into the block... time for a new block when that happens. So if it looses power, have him do a compression check ASAP.
Might be best off finding a nice VG30 drivetrain package out of a modern Pathfinder, and stuffing it into the truck! :)
aussietj -- I'm a long time Datsun/Nissan fan. No Patrol for the USA. They stopped importing them here in '69 (??). A lot of the OLD Datsun's were overbuilt. Managed to put 250,000 miles on my first one (PL510)... which I competed in Pro Rallies all over the West Coast... driving to and from events (couldn't afford a tow car, nor trailer... ). On the 1980's vintage Nissan Trucks... it is VERY common to find the transmission popping out of 3rd gear when you let off the throttle. :p
