Running Ford 400M motor out of a 1980 F250. Milage is about 50,000 but the rebuild records are lost. Engine is in great shape and has lots of upgraded parts. I am selling only because I am upgrading to an EFI 460. The truck has always passed SMOG with flying colors (pre-mod) and doesn’t burn any oil between the 5000 mile oil changes. This engine makes tons of torque at a very low RPM and pulled my 6500 lb truck through the Rubicon with no problems.
Since the last SMOG check I have made a few upgrades that will probably not pass inspection. I will however include all the original parts so the engine can be put back to its stock form. I should also mention that the 400 cannot be distinguished from the 351M at smog time so this is a great upgrade for broncos f150, f250, f350, etc that came with a 351.
Recently upgraded / replaced parts
Power steering pump bracket has been modified to fit a Saginaw pump for better steering (I will include the correct pulley but not the pump)
Oil pump upgraded to a TRW high volume less than a year ago
Intake is Edelbrock 3771 performer EGR with the 4 barrel EGR adapter
Carb is an 83 460 4 barrel rebuilt and installed with the cam
alternator is upgraded to a 130A single wire alternator
All emissions equipment included.
Clutch and pressure plate replaced last summer 11” 351m style
Cam and chain replaced 9 months ago degreed at 0 instead of the factory -4. timing chain can be set -4, 0, and 4 degrees

Transmission is a rebuilt New Process 435 with the granny low. This is a very desirable trans for its low ratio, size, durability, and strength. Trans was rebuilt and installed a few years ago shifts smoothly and has shown no problems at all. It can directly replace a borg warner 18 or 19 in the same truck and has the transfer case adapter attached. Ratios in this trans are 6.69 1st,3.34 2nd,1.79 3rd,1.00 4th.
asking $800 together or $500 each separate. lots of extra small parts will be included if you don’t talk me down to much. If you are in doubt and want to hear it run I can probably arrange it but it will take some doing to rig it to run.
