rebuilt transfercase BJ40/FJ40: After observing some serious damage to the idler gear shaft of my transfercase, which I assume happens more often since it comes with nearly all overhaul kits, I noticed that the inside of the idler gear itself is also roughened up at he level of the largest cogwheel. Nothing major but it not mirror finished anymore. Should I worry about this ?

Thanks for any respons,

Walter

The front bearing always goes first. If the inside surface is rough, pitted or galled, I would look for a better used one. If is is just slightly worn (like the outer race on the output gear bearings) I wouldn't worry about it. It won't be great, but it should last longer than the idler shaft.
