First off, This may be a stupid question. Second, I did search. I found all of nine threads, with just about no info.

I have a line on a Sky Manufacturing rear shackle flip kit for 73-88 Chevys. I want to use this on my 97 GMC if possible, because the guy is selling it for less than half price, and if it will work, I will definitely go pick it up. Will this work for my application? It appears that it will work if I drill new holes for it on the frame, but I will probably just weld it on anyways for strength. Any help guys? Thank you!

I may be wrong, but i think the 73-87 shackle flips put the shackle mount further out from the frame than the 88-98.

well i have no actual exp with the kit. but i do kno that the front spring hanger is a diff offset from from the 73-87 to the 88-200 trucks. ive tried to interchange them. that being said i would imagine the rear would be spaced dif too.

i would agree. i know the front hangers are a dif offset, so i would imagine the rear would be as well

i just went through this on my 94, the 73-87 frame brackets stand off the frame 3 inches, the 88-98 trucks only stand off 2 inches. the brackets will not put the springs at the correct width.

if you take a measuring tape to a k30 you might find that the rear spring perches are about 2 inches offset, and the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton set up is a 3 inch offset.

To update this I sent SKY this message:

Hello,
Can your rear shackle flip for 73-88 Chevy vehicles be used on a 97 GMC if I drill holes for it or just weld it on?

Thank you for your time and great products!
Todd

And got this in reply:

Yes, thats what a lot of people end up doing.
Sky.

Just to help if someone is searching for an answer.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The springs aren't mounted perfectly parallel in those trucks from the factory anyways. You might just have to loosen the u-bolts and make the rear portion of the springs flare out a little more than they already do to work and then re-tighten everything.

Do it and post up some pics of the install.

If I can get these brackets I definitely will. It looks like that is not going to happen though because the guy does not want to separate them from the other lift components he is selling, which are for the solid axle trucks. I have no need for those.

I only have maybe $70 so I cannot buy it all and sell it. I am too poor, haha. But if I can get him to separate it, I can probably get those hangers for $70 or so.
