hey guys, i was wondering how you get the igintion switch out of the colum. i went to turn my 85 cj7 off today and it did not turn off. the gauges and all turned off, just not the motor. then once i got it shut off, it will not crank now, it will sit there and just turn over. so i figure it must be that switch. any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks, scott

It is attached with two screws to the top side of the column under the dash tha key cylinder in the only thing out there by the stearing wheel.. Take a 5/16's wrench and remove the two screws that hold it to the column, remove it from the actuating rod, and unplug the wires..Once you get the wires unplugged you can consider it removed ..

are you talking about the ignition switch or the tumbler?
To remove the ignition switch do as hy_desert said.
If its the tumbler, Pull the steering wheel off, pull the blinker/hazards, mechanizm out of the way, then theres a little button you have to push to get the tumbler to release. pull it out.. put new one in.. re-assemble.
To get the steering wheel off you need a puller.... Dont try and whack it with a BFH.

there is a plate in the column that you will have to remove. It is a pain in the arse if you don't have the right tool. For the life of me I can't remember what it is called but it is for GM steering column. What is does is screws onto the shaft the steering wheel came off of and presses on the plate so you can get the pin out. Once you get that out the rest is pie, but until you get that out your stuck. he he
the tool is like fifteen dollars at the autoparts store.
