I will be doing mine shortly so if you start PMing people, please update this thread with whatever you find.

Also, I think Woody (ih8mud.com) just rebuilt/is rebuilding his and he is a wealth of friendly advice...

no longer a newbie:D

For T-Case rebuild parts....
I go to Bergstrom Toyota in Osh.
Shims bearings etc.
Not a long drive for you Max.

Of, they can send parts to any Bergstrom dealer near you...

These folks have done right by me (in parts)
I get a slight discount as a teacher...

that is all fine and good...but the problem is i dont know what i need to rebuild it! :) And, does the total price of gaskets, all bearings, idler shaft or whatever, and all the parts--does it total less than 156...cuz that is the lowest price i have found so far.

just got a reply from westtexasoffroad.com--
The kit is $139; $157 with Toyota idler shaft

I should have one here by Friday to ship. The kit includes seals,
bearings,
gaskets, idler. Output adjustment shims and gear bushings are not
included.

So what's the verdict? I am about to buy a rebuild kit for my 3 speed tcase, and don't know who has the best deal on a complete kit. Or if I should piece it together with a gasket kit, and go to a bearing shop...

What did you end up figuring out?
Thanks in advance-
Zipp. :fj:

Have you taken everything apart yet?

If you do NOT need bearings, then it will be alot less ($60?). If you need the bearings, then you still might want to source a "minor kit" and take the old bearings into a bearing supply store. Typically they are lots cheaper for bearings (i.e. Toyota OEM $25... same bearing in a non-toyota wrapper $15).

For me, I figure my time is worth at least $25/hour. I've learned it doesn't pay to spend two hours running around to save $20 bucks! :)

Yes, folks think I'm nuts for buying Toyota OEM stuff from Spector... but I like being able to look on-line. Click. Fill in credit
card info... send it (quite often I'm stuck on a two hour conference call... but only needed to be on for 10 minutes of it. Hmm... great for PBB time, too!) :flipoff2:

BTW... if you post prices & part numbers, please comment on WHICH transfer case (3 spd, 4 spd, 4 split, 85+ Fj60) :D

Rick D would be my choice, if he's not around call Robert @ heartoftexasoffroad.com.

Add the Toyota idler shaft. better quality than the non toyota stuff(hardened better for better wear characteristics.) Kits have Koyo bearings(OEM supplier) and good seals/gaskets.

I would NOT pony the extra cash for a lesser kit from MAF/SOR etc. they are the same Aussie kits... but upgrade to the toyota idler shaft.

hey, i dragged this out of the bowels of the board for ya...look at the date!

i ended up going with georg's kit. i believe it was around 150.00. i ended up needing an idler shaft and bearings so i got those from toyota. very good kit! :D
