figured i would start a build thread even tho i've been "building" since i got it in high school 7 years ago. it all started with a lift kit and a trip to the rubicon and went downhill from there.
current specs:
351W with some nice plug wires, intake, loud exhaust etc
C6 with a shift kit and cooler
BW1356 with a really cool shifter
Dana 60, 4340 outers, lockrite, Milemarker hubs, S&N flanges too
14 bolt, 4340 shafts, detroit
5.13 gears
39.5x17 TSLs, Cragar 17x9s
some 2.0 shocks with special valving tricks all around
52" chevy 4" lift springs in front
stock leaves, Sky shackle flip, 2 link drag bar kit in back
cage, sliders, bumpers etc
Crow 5 point harnesses
custom bodywork

where it all started

swapped to 1 tons
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/143588/fullsize/dscf0499.jpg
redid the front after a couple years and swapped to 52" blazer springs

homebrewed a 10" slip driveshaft

made a better skid plate

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/636585/fullsize/img_1361.jpg
added some real shocks to the front
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/494173/fullsize/picture-006.jpg
and trimmed the fat back end

wheeled it like that for a couple years while i finished school, got engaged, wheeled some more, and tried to figure out the ultimate goal for this build (since it seemed to change yearly when i was in college).

by now i had a pretty good idea of what i wanted from this thing. its still waay too much fun to drive on the street so that needed to be maintained despite regular trips to the rubicon, fordyce, pismo, etc. i've driven it to baja and back but would probably throw it on a trailer for something that far when i do it again. at least until i figure out something for overdrive and longer wearing tires. ultimate goal was for reliable street manners, option to DD it, but still be able to run the entire rubicon fast (under a day if necessary) or run around in the desert chasing race cars

made some caps to eliminate the spring setup on a kingpin Dana 60
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/766155/fullsize/caps-004.jpg

i also realized that the way i had originally done my Dana 60 swap i had basically done it wrong. i ended up with 12-13* of positive caster, a shackle that hung off the bottom of an open c-channel and way too much angle on a flat leaf spring. so i redid just about everything when i found some nice 4" lift springs at pick n pull.
the transformation:
from this
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/143594/fullsize/dscf0504.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765546/fullsize/before-002.jpg
to this
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/764691/fullsize/springs-003.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765543/fullsize/springs-001.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765544/fullsize/springs-003.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765548/fullsize/springs-007.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765549/fullsize/springs-008.jpg
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/765550/fullsize/springs-011.jpg

the end result was 3" more uptravel, 5* less caster, ~1" more ride height now that the springs have settled, and an intrinsically stronger design. it drives more like a racecar than a garbage truck now.

i made the fiberglass top fit the narrowed rear end, and added a super sweet tailgate
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/771982/fullsize/duals-001.jpg
made some room for my front driveshaft to droop out, and kept all factory ease of removal (haven't seen anybody take that into account yet...)
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/771784/fullsize/tunnel-013.jpg

added a bunch of lights and switches to confuse me
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/778343/fullsize/takeoff-004.jpg
and made a t-case shifter out of an outer shaft i ruined

added some shocks to the front
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/771985/fullsize/duals-006.jpg
and finally built a legitimate rear shock mount setup for the first time

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/769183/fullsize/mockup-016.jpg

i needed to do something about axle wrap and wheel hop, and didn't like the way i would end up packaging a more common anti wrap bar setup so after some reading i decided to try and build a 2 link. everything came off the shelves at polyperformance. made a significant improvement in putting the power to the ground, especially in the whoops. i noticed significantly cooler shock temps (with the highly scientific hand on shock method), much more consistent behavior from my detroit and improved body roll control.

right now i'm getting about 12" of travel in front and 13" of travel in back, enough to have some fun but not so much that it rides like a worn out hooker.

This is one of my favorite Broncos on FSB. Hope it all comes together because I really like the idea of a well built multipurpose rig.

What drive flanges are those? I like the mushroom cloud :D

drive flanges are from S&N fab. i think they went under? either way, they are just the warn kit with their custom caps. they have certainly caused a lot of parts to :nuke: over the years...
