: Reno Nevada Trail Run
Well, a trail run was to be started mid october, but that kinda fell apart. Far too mutch stuff going on this month, jeep club meetings, hammer trail runs and rubicon clean up.
So, Lest try and get a run together for November!
Who want to hit some of the local crawling trails with fellow pirates and a few locals?
If you want to hit the trails, feel free to chime in and tell us a weekend you can make it over.
Lets get a date tossed on the table, and some trails on the list!
Pathmaker 10-09-2002, 10:29 PM I'm in, of course...whenever
Disco 10-10-2002, 10:40 PM What trails you hittin? Peavine? Bronco Canyon(I don't like this one)
At first i thought Hunter Lake trail from west reno to verdi, but the last leg of the trail was gated by the owners. :( And its not mutch of a crawling trail..
So Peavine was next on the list. I was hoping to get some local's naming some trails with more challange. Bronco canyon is okay, i not a huge fan of it either. And i recall that it is riddled with construction. Some offices are going up right next to it.
Im open to any suggestions!
blutoylit 10-11-2002, 12:11 AM Nov 9 or 10 or 16 or 17 might work for me if I could tag along. Bronco's the funnest out of the trails mentioned I guess but they're all kind of amusing. Doing the painted rocks loop & then messing around at moonrocks in a day would be ok too. Any other ideas?
scwafish 10-11-2002, 06:20 AM We will be up there to watch the ProRock finals on Sat. 11/16 so anything before or after (Friday or Sunday) the event would be perfect for us. Keep it going SMC!

When I went to Bronco Canyon I was pissed. The actual trail is less than a half mile long(it would be fun if the trail was a couple miles long). There are a few decent sections but I will never go there again. It took us about 2 hours on a dirt road to get there. Never again!!!!
Theres a good idea! Come for the comp. After watching them break stuff, and the bloods still moving, hop in your rigs and hit the trails!
I like this!:D
So Who would be up for a November 16th run?
Michael Lopas 10-11-2002, 04:21 PM Where is ProRocks being held?
Ya know, thats a damn good question.
Lemoore-on 10-11-2002, 05:23 PM :crybaby2: I will be out of the area by then, back home for a short stay :( then back out to sea
scwafish 10-11-2002, 10:39 PM SMC-Don't know exactly where the comp is gonna be, just know its in the Reno area. I will know the details soon.
Pathmaker 10-12-2002, 02:41 AM I heard it's at Moonrocks again.
t wrecks 10-12-2002, 07:52 AM There is a spot that is before you get to bronco that FeCamel and I wheeled on for a bit then decieded that we didnt have enough time to finish so we turned around. It is quite a bit more challenging then bronco and longer as well.
Or if you want Peavine there is two trails that I know of. Both of them arent real long but doing both one after the other would take a good part of the day.
SMC, if you dont remember me Im the guy that wheeled with you and FeCamel on Peavine. I have since rebuilt the motor and ditched my fuel spew'in 2 barrel.
So lets set a date and go wheeling.
BTW, I seen a ad in the window at Napa that said they were buildingarock crawling course at Reno-Fernley race way and the first comp. would be in Nov.

Again?!? :D Wonderful, thats a great site.
BTW, your rig looks Mutch better with the 37's on it. Whats the eta on the front d-shaft?

How could i forget you!? Great rig. Ashame we couldnt finish the trail that night. Its good to hear that your rigine is running fuel puke free now.
You and Felcamel seem to know a good deal more trails than i do. Anything you can suggest would be great. Not looking to roll *badly* but a winch optional trail would be great.
Heh, i dont get out mutch anymore. And the trails i do know dont have names. Drop me a PM, id like to check out the pre-bronco canyon trail you are talking about. Sound fun

Thanks, not quite like your rig, but I'm liking it more. As far as front shaft, I gotta get that rear axle in first (going to start preparing it tomorrow), then I still have to get my rear shaft out of there, have it lengthend and get a new end put on it. Plus I need to get that exhaust pipe modified, and the crossmember. If things go well, the body lift will be off tomorrow too (along with some fender pieces). haha, yeah right, i'll probably wake up late and just stare at it.
blutoylit 10-14-2002, 04:27 PM I've been wanting to check out the prebronco trail too. Btw it didn't seem like it took that long to get the bronco trail, maybe an hour from lockwood...

I don't run shocks in the rear so I can't baja a dirt road like some. :D

Awww geez quit your whining. There is a much more challenging trail near Bronco. It's closer from the highway and it's MUCH longer.
There's also another trail on Peavine that is way tougher than the original Peavine trail. The end is a little tricky though.
Let me know when you guys want to go, I'm always up for a run.
Okay people. Who is down for a November 16th Run in Reno.
If you want in, say so now!
So far; this is who is going:
SMC
Pathmaker
scwafish
FeCamel
t wrecks
blutoylit
dncswrk
(+ some local wheelers)
t wrecks 10-15-2002, 10:14 PM I don't run shocks in the rear so I can't baja a dirt road like some.
I had fecamel lead me on a chase to NOWHERE for 5 hours in the middle of the night all over the desert around Bronco. I had no shocks and my front drive shaft was an inch to short so it kept coming apart. Then the next time we went there my rig caught on fire:eek:. Their is some good wheeling in that area, but damn I'm cursed when ever I'm there.
Belly Dragger 10-16-2002, 06:31 AM I'm in.
I agree on Bronco, it's fun but a boring ride to get there. I haven't been up on Peavine since the early 80's. There is also El Dorado Canyon and if you stay in the river bed it's rock city. There is a canyon one valley over that to my knowledge no one has ever made it up. There is also P-hill for a 1/2 day screw off on the rocks. No real trail/destination but some challenges can be found.
Hopefully Mike will be in the shop today so I can take my POS down and get it fixed so I'll be ready. We could do some scouting to find a trail that can bring the mall cruisers along to watch and a challenge for the hard core types. That's one reason I like El Dorado, you can break rocks or or hang on what's left of the road.
FeCamel 10-17-2002, 02:40 AM Yeah, El Dorado is nice, but last time I was there it was pretty torn up. There were a bunch of people on horses that looked absolutely disgusted that we were driving on the rocks in the creek. I'm not sure what agency manages the land there, probably BLM, but it is in poor shape. There are clear signs all over of off-trail travel and lots of garbage. The advantage to El Dorado is that the mall-cruiser road parallels the rock trail. If we do it, we should bring lots of bags and try to clean it up a little. Peavine is under intense Forest Service/Sierra Club scrutiny, so we might want to go there before we can no longer.
T-wrecks: I thought we made good time considering it was dark and neither of us had any clue where we were going. I just think you were pre-occupied on that run :flipoff2: . Have you ever even been through Bronco? It seems like something always stops us hahaha fire.

Nobody has made it up before? Hmmmm :skull: Sounds like fun for a small group of three or so. But a big group would be there all day. Either that, or half would have to turn around and go back..
I have quite a few friends who want to go on this with us. I tell them get 35's and strong axles or stay home. *or spot for somone :D*
If we can find a trail thats hardcore in spots with bypasses for the non locked mall rigs, that would be great. My rigs is a bout to become street legal in a few days, so ill head out and do some exploring next week. Photos etc...
scwafish 10-17-2002, 05:08 PM Sounding better....PICS!!!!
FeCamel 10-17-2002, 05:52 PM SMC: Let me know if you want a companion to do some scouting. I just quit my job so I have a lot of time. I can show you the trails I am talking about too.
Yea, quitting gives you quite abit of free time. Ill drop you a line next week, and we will check out some possable trails. I need to finish fabricating a fan shroud before i head off, but that shouldnt take too long. *Changed to mech. fan from the electric fans i had. They kept breaking or frying. Flex-a-lite said they were never intended for such harsh enviroments as off roading. So no refunds on the broken fans. F'em. Mech fans pull more cfm anyway. :D*
PM me your number fecamel, ill call you.
FeCamel 10-18-2002, 01:26 PM That sucks about the fans. Should've told them it was on a Geo or somehting. I'll post my numbers here incase anybody else is ever in Reno.
Matt
775-337-6354
775-240-1738
what the hell, heres my number also. For thoes who might need it.
1-900... oh, wrong number :flipoff2:
775-691-2746
blutoylit 10-19-2002, 01:38 PM OK so here's a question, maybe dumb, maybe not. I've only done bronco once, from the lockwood way. We crawled the canyon for not that long of a distance & then took a steep climb to the right up out of there, ending up on a powerline road that eventually led us to the virginia highlands or whatever. So was that the whole trail? What happens if you stay in that creek bottom, does that go anywhere? I didn't look too closely at it at the time but it looked maybe more rugged than the creekbed had been up to that point...
FeCamel 10-19-2002, 07:48 PM Yes, that's the main gripe about Bronco-it's too short. But there are other canyons near Bronco that would take days to get through. It might also be possible to stay in Bronco longer, instead of turning out where it currently "ends". The BLM doesn't mind us crawling through the canyons out there as long as we keep them clean.
Fecamel, if its not too mutch trouble, could you post the names and locations *or relitive location* of the trails you know? As i have noted, i know trails, but not thier names. I know Bronco and Hunter Lake. Thats about it  Heh, at best, i can say "Follow me, i know where a great run is.."
FeCamel 10-20-2002, 06:03 AM Most of the good trails I know of are kind of hard to find and don't have names other than what my friends and I have named them (as far as I know). There are a ton of canyons out by Bronco that are good trails, but giving directions would be impossible, I'd have to show you. You know where Peavine is, and there is another good one about a 1/2 mile to the west of there. It starts just west of the King's Row access. The others are hard to give directions. Give me a call if you want to do some scouting and I can show you.
locrwln 10-20-2002, 06:54 AM I've got a few friends that would be interested in a decent local run. Also I agree on the bronco canyon, fun while your in it but hella long time to get to and out of. By the way if you drive in through the VC highlands instead of Lockwood it saves about a half hour. That is the problem with most of our local "trails". Very short hard core stuff, long time to get there and out of. Keep us informed. It would also be a good time to some clean up.
t wrecks 10-20-2002, 10:10 AM T-wrecks: I thought we made good time considering it was dark and neither of us had any clue where we were going. I just think you were pre-occupied on that run . Have you ever even been through Bronco? It seems like something always stops us hahaha fire.
Yes, that was a rather, ahem, interesting evening  . And yes I did make it through with bald 33" AT's and no Lincoln locker.
That is the problem with most of our local "trails". Very short hard core stuff, long time to get there and out of.
Yeah but by the time I get to the trail Ive got lots of courage in me!:D
FeCamel 10-21-2002, 01:38 AM I find that most of our local trails are very easy and quick to get to. I can get to Bronco from 80 in about 45 minutes. The problem is when people without shocks and inverting shackles slow us down HAHA. It would take me longer to go through the Highlands.
It sounds like the most logical trail would be El Dorado because it offers both rocks and easy trails in parallel for those with less-equipped rigs. If some of the guys want something more difficult, maybe we can arrange it the day before or after the general run.
scwafish 10-21-2002, 05:43 AM A hard run on Friday would be sweet. Sounds like the ProRocks event has now been switched to Sat. and Sun. somewhere in Fernely. I'm still not what days I'll be watching, and which days I'll be wheeling.
blutoylit 10-21-2002, 11:26 AM Hey fecamel where were ya last saturday? I hung out with the cruisers at moonrocks & took some screwed up lines. Anyway had a little fun, turnout was ok.

I wanted to go but I was burnt out from work and I ended up getting sick. Hope you guys had a good time without me. Glad to hear you took some screwy lines for entertainment value, gotta keep the newbies scared.
blutoylit 10-25-2002, 08:49 PM :p TTT:p
FeCamel, ill be finished with my rigs suspension *WB extending, custom radius arms etc. etc...* mods by the end of next week, ill give you a call and we will check thoes trails your talking about.
