: New Spike's AR-15 for $799
StuartTX 03-07-2010, 09:36 AM I was looking around on Spike's site and I noticed something new. They have a new model called ST-15 M4 "LE" for $799. Its the same as the ST-15 but without the "cold hammer forged" barrel. Its chromed throughout, properly staked (don't know what that means), and comes with a detachable carry handle. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

TheRedHorseman 03-07-2010, 09:52 AM "Properly staked" is a bullshit term cooked up by people who have convinced the arfcommie crowd that nothing short of an industrial steam hammer can properly stake the screws that hold the gas key on to the bolt carrier.
Strangely, these same folks happen to sell some pricey tools that allow the convinced followers to "properly stake" his or her bolt carrier screws.

What you object to a 300$ tool that replaced a punch and hammer? Commie!!
TheRedHorseman 03-07-2010, 10:15 AM I use the people's patriotic 1/4" F staking tool made by patriotic Chinese laborers in the patriotic people's factory number 584.

I use a $10 chisel and an $18 hammer.

If thats out of your systems, back to topic please, what does anyone think of this deal?
aloharover 03-07-2010, 10:51 AM They make a good product, but are unethical.
You should have no problem finding similar quality at a similar price, CMMG for example
thedonn007 03-07-2010, 11:44 AM What did Spikes do again? Didn't they change prices on lowers that were already ordered or something like that?
StuartTX 03-07-2010, 12:06 PM I'm unclear on that as well. Are you upset at them for responding to an increase in demand by changing their prices?
bpipe95 03-07-2010, 12:13 PM They raised prices after O got in office, now prices have come back down. So people/dealers that bought when the price was high are stuck with some higher priced product.
It is all supply and demand, no one had to buy from them when they raised prices. Hell my partner and I got our FFL right when the entire market was crazy over inflated. Instead of buying high, we just waited until the bubble popped.
So basically people made poor choices to buy when the market was high, and it is spikes fault.
kwrangln 03-07-2010, 12:23 PM From the other Spikes thread this week.
My only complaint about Spike is that the week after the election they raised their prices from 120 to 175$.
They did this to dealers that had placed their orders before the election.
They claimed it was out of their hands/control.
So they are selling/shipping all of these receivers, and then all of a sudden they drop their retail price to 80$. So now you have a bunch of retailers stuck holding receivers that cost twice as much as the mfg is selling them for.
If you find something less expensive then what I carry, then buy it. A lower is a lower.

maybe you should learn all the facts before you jump to conclusions, sherlock.
TxCruzr 03-07-2010, 04:24 PM What makes the spike $200 better than a $600 cmmg?

So dealers should have told their customers - nope can't get that, the the customer would go where they could the item?
Or the deale rplaces the order and then the same week the dealer receives their order, Spikes drops the prices on the web site, now all the customers go buy direct from Spikes, dealer is stuck with receivers that now they can only sell for 1/2 of what they paid for them? But thats ok to you because its supply and demand?
The week before the election their prices were 100 dealer, 120 public, week after they were 155/175.
Spikes is the only mfg I am aware of that raised their prices the week of the election.
The only MFG that raised them so much.
CMMG had a 10$ increase in September.
DS had a 5$ increase in December.
Those are the only MFGs that I am aware of that raised prices.
Spikes also claimed they had no choice but to raise prices, and the price increase affected people that placed their orders prior to the election. I find it strange that out of all the MFGs out there, all buying the same forgings pretty much, only Spikes HAD to have such a high price increase.
Then with out even warning dealers that they were planning on dropping prices, they dropped them down to $80ea on their web site, almost 50% off what they had been selling to dealers.
It might be supply and demand but it struck me as poor taste and gouging.
Not that it matters, but as soon as they raised their prices I stopped dealing with them. When they dropped them it only confirmed my opinion of their biz practice.
Again my opinion, so I took my biz elsewhere
StuartTX 03-07-2010, 04:38 PM What makes the spike $200 better than a $600 cmmg?
Well, the Spike's rifle has a chrome lined barrel and chamber, is brand new, and comes with a carrying handle. To me, that's worth $200 right there.
aloharover 03-07-2010, 04:47 PM FWIW...CMMG M4 is 1:7 chrome lined and runs 850 with a flip up rear sight.
never said Spikes wasn't good quality, they are. They will also ship to CA, not many mfgs will.
