: Favorite Beadlocks/Wheels & Why

I've done the searches and read all the various threads on beadlocks. However, I would like to see if there is any sort of consensus on what people like the best.

It seems that many people/manufactures are beadlocking the MT Classic II. In a thread the other day I noted that someone had a failure with the wheel. Is anyone else having problems with this wheel?

You forgot the MRT 36 bolt
That's what I have, and I like them a lot. BUT I've never run any other beadlocks, so I don't have anything to say about them.

Those hummer wheels do sound good (read cheap) though. ;)

When i buy my 'locks they will be rockstompers, big.. beefy...3/8's bolts... countersunk cap screws.... no need for new rims... that.... and scott seems like a stand up member of this board.

I've made the decision on Hummer beadlocks. I dunno, I like the price and the looks.

I run 36 bolt mrt's but I've also run 32 bolt Alied's and I really like them both, I've yet to break a bolt on either with 44's.

I'm going to run Hummer beadlocks--haven't run these in the past, so I hope they will be the way to go. Based this on alot of other people using them as well.

i built my own first set, a 36 bolt copy of rockstompers. but i have since went to hummers. much easier to mount tires and locks it on both sides. and i dont think they will work loose like so many other types of bead locks. just a lot less work to keep up with them. and i have a guy that will widen them for me for about 30 a wheel and i have the spacer to make up the differance on the bead lock. so 44s wont be a problem.mike

i have 16 of the radial spacers that are about 3"s wide. i have a dirt track guy here that will widen the rims. mike

I voted for the hummer beadlocks. I will be running them on the tube chassis toy once finished. I needed them because of the backspacing for use on MOG axles.

Why?
All the pros Daniel listed. They are cheap, got mine for around $80 ea. which included shipping.
Also, while spectating at Erocc I saw a comp rig tear a valve stem off at the begining of the run, but was able to finish the course because of the runflat. The course had large rocks and a step rock ledge to climb. Just hammered through and didn't damage the rim or tire from what I could see. I was convinced they are the rim to use after that.

I have to say the champions are the best. light weight , high quality, although they are expensive

I voted for Rockstomper. They are cheap, they do the job, and Scott is a good guy!

What are the specs on Hummer Wheels? I know they are 16.5" 8 on 6.5" correct? What width are they and what kinda back spacing?

One of the best thing about Hummer beadlocks is the required 16.5" bead diameter... I have found that you can get some killer deals on large tires for 16.5" rims since nobody seems to want them ;)

i wasn't planning on selling any of the spacers, i was hoarding them for myself. mike

i like my version of the MRT, a stock 36 bolter with the 5/16 bolts thrown away, and replaced with 3/8. i like 36 3/8 bolts better than 36 5/16 bolts:D

i like the hummers with custom centers so you can change the offset.

Hummer wheels are actually 16.5 x 8.25.

Thanks to all 37 who voted.

But come on. 528 views and only 37 votes:confused:

So who does custom offsets for the Hummer wheels and a 5x5.5 pattern. I think Twisted Customs does this don't they?

Can the Rockathon's easily be converted to 3/8"?

My vote is for the Aggresive Offroad BL's, but their not listed.
Only downside was it was PITA to mount the tires.

None of the above, they're all too heavy for race applications :p

Didn't post Aggressive because I was unaware of them. Looked at their website but it didn't contain any info on their beadlocks. That is if I looked at the right Aggressive, the one located in FL.

I just put up a vote for Rockstomper, but they're not my "favourite" exactly, as I've never tried any other. But I've made 3 sets, and was very happy with them, especially for the price.

I would like to try Hummer rims with custom centers one-day. 66CJDean on the board makes some very nice looking ones. I think Daniel does too.

I voted for the rock stomper, build up some bead locks off the old set of 16.5in rims.

How equivalent is a 16.5in rim with the rockstomper beadlock add on kit to a double sided hummer rim?

And how much does it matter if you used a safety bead type 16.5 (factory style stealies) or aftermarket 16.5 no safety bead for adding on the rockstomper kit?

Last I heard, Aggressive does not make Beadlocks anymore. H8monday has a set if you are looking to see what they look like. It's a shame too, because H8's BL's are really great and the design works very well.

i definetly like the looks and quality of OMF, TRAILREADY, AND CHAMPION. but i have never run any of them. i have a set of 16 bolt eatons that i bought used and other than than one that leaks down within 24 hours, no problems. does any one know any more about OMF? especially the new "scalloped" beadlock rims, the one small pic i saw they looked really ccoooool :D . i also heard OMF taught CHAMPION everything they know? i'm considering buying a decent set of alum. wheels locally and sending them to the other coast to be converted to locks:D . either CHAMPION or OMF

I don't own any and never have, but I want to buy some. I have been looking at the Avalanche/TR BL's. I would get the aluminum ones. I really like the looks of them. But after everthing I have been hearing about the hummer BL's latley. I might just go that route.

Can anybody give me some good info, bad or good, on the Avalanche/TR BL's?

Thanks,

Scott

I vote for Avalanche:D not the TR...the Avalanche have 18 3/8" bolts instead of 18 5/16" bolts...:D:D:D

I run the Avalanche/TR BL's, 16.5 (20 bolt) on a 5,800 pound rig and they work awesome, never a problem. I'm sure the others are good too, just no experience with the others.

I talked with OMF about 9 months ago and they told me that they used to order and sell Champions for years. However, Champion's delivery schedule was just too long for them so OMF started making their own beadlock and it is basically similar to Champions with some OMF added features that they thought were improvements.

I originally had a set of MRT's and all of them leaked through the silicon sealed welds, all 5 would go flat over night :(

Didn't have the cash to buy any new ones so Tom (aka Captain America) and I built a custom aluminum set.http://www.ramseyoffroad.com/Brads_beadlocks_small.JPG http://www.ramseyoffroad.com/Brads_beadlocks.JPG

Very nice work.

So what wheels did you use?

Did you cut the lip of the wheel off and weld on the backing ring or did you do something like how Rockstomper attaches?

I've run MRT Carbon fibers (like a plastic beer mug) with good luck except they are out of production for now. Also had MRT 18 bolt steelies, all worked well.

MRT did have a bad stretch, biz changed hands, new owner had some "issues" and let's just say he didn't focus on the product. Original owner reclaimed the biz and they are back on track.

Have some TR's using the MT II's and like those too.

Anyone know someone who can widen the TR's by welding a band in the outside section- and do it reasonably $$?

I voted rockstomper mainly because of $$ and that it's a steel wheel. After seeing several cast alum wheels chip and crack on trails and then seeing 6-8 of them bust at the Supercrawl, I'd rather steel wheels.
(maybe forged Alcoa alum. wheels, but can't afford that..)

I've seen both the OMF and the champion beadlocks up close as well as the allieds, and I do know that as soon as I get my hands on the aluminum rims that I want, they are getting OMF's.
