: Benchmade replacement springs
twentyfootdaredevil 03-08-2010, 11:42 AM The knife with the black blade has a broken spring. I am not LEO or military so where can I get springs for this knife?
I seen the ebay cheap springs but I didnt know if they were worth having.

Chris 03-08-2010, 12:14 PM Benchmade will send you the spring.
ROCKILLER 03-08-2010, 12:16 PM What does LEO or military have to do with it?
twentyfootdaredevil 03-08-2010, 12:21 PM They are both automatic knifes. Benchmade told me if I didnt have proof that I was either LEO or Military they wouldnt return my knive.
I will call and ask again but I was told to mail in the knife for repair when I asked about springs.
I will call again and see if they will ship the springs.

Looks to me like it is an auto-opener.
Regulated in some states, not regulated in others. But sometimes companies will only sell auto-openers (and I guess the parts) to leo/military regardless of the law, probably because their lawyers tell them so.
Edit: meh, beat by seconds. :P
twentyfootdaredevil 03-08-2010, 12:31 PM I have had an automatic knife in my pocket for over 10 years now and I wouldnt want any other knife.
I really dont understand why they are considered dangerous.
I know for a fact the black knife in the picture saved my life and two other guys that were with me. I am not sure if the outcome would have been the same with most other knifes I have had in the past.

Good old OSR, you learn something new every day.
aloharover 03-08-2010, 01:27 PM I wonder if being an FFL dealer would get around their LEO/MIL req?

I would think the angle of "I sell even-more-evil-stuff to LEO/MIL" might work.

If you want to sell me a spring I would appreciate it. I am not a criminal. I use the knife as a tool and for the work I do it is damn handy to have around.

I think he was suggesting maybe you could call them and ask if they would sell it to him, rather than him actually having one sitting in his garage. I'd bet a lot of money I could find something that would work on McMasters' website.
aloharover 03-08-2010, 02:31 PM I was thinking, if you can't find anything, I would be willing to send it in to them for repair, or try and get the spring myself.
My .MIL ID says retired on it so not sure if they would work with that, or maybe with my FFL.
Thinking out loud I guess
Anyone know if the styker spring is the same as whats in the top knife?
Snowbird13 03-08-2010, 02:33 PM What states can you not have an auto opener in? I know I can buy them here in OR.
twentyfootdaredevil 03-08-2010, 02:38 PM I bought the top knife in Louisiana and the bottom knife in Iowa.
I know in Indiana where I live you cannot buy them or own them.
TNToy 03-08-2010, 02:59 PM TN has some pretty good gun laws, but we can't carry an auto knife.
I carry a Benchmade Osbourne, with the AXIS lock. It's pretty much as fast as an auto, if you posess at least one working thumb.
Red Dwarf 03-08-2010, 03:28 PM I think it might be Benchmade's policy. I recall a guy stationed at Mountain Home who had to find a local FFL to run his knife through for repair. Stupid, but that's how it had to be. They might have even required the FFL to be a Benchmade dealer - not totally sure on that.
Edit: I misspoke, sort of. Benchmade will only accept knives for repair or resharpening from an authorized dealer so the guy was looking for a local dealer that would help him out. FFL wasn't required. In his case Impact Guns stepped up and took care of him. There was also some discussion that in order to get a warranty repair, a purchase receipt was required. There wasn't any closure on that so I don't know for sure if it's true.
NEWMANS OWN 03-08-2010, 04:25 PM In Cantucky you can carry one with a weapons permit.
NEWMANS OWN 03-08-2010, 04:26 PM I've had my 9150sf since it was given to me in 02. wouldn't carry anything less.
Snowbird13 03-08-2010, 05:22 PM I do live near the BM factory. I wonder if I had a model number if I could get a spring for it? Or would they want the actual knife?
twentyfootdaredevil 03-08-2010, 05:25 PM 2550 is the model number. I just checked on their website and they do not ship springs at all.
