Questions comments concerns???
Erik D_lux 10-10-2002, 08:21 AM Did you stick with the 55 rears? What did you set your wheelbase at?
Jason M 10-10-2002, 08:29 AM FJ 55 rear that were inboarded and the wb is 104"
The front springs have been flipped but other than that no SR was done...
I moved the rear back by 11.5" or so....
rugburn 10-10-2002, 08:38 AM
Looking great!
How are you gonna fill the void of the rear wheelwell now that the axle is so far rearward????
I'll bet you can't wait to spool that fawker up!!!!!!:nuke:

And I am going to fill the void by runing a 3/16" armor plate on that part of the tub. It will sort of match the rear diamond plate..
And pics of the 38" swampers being burnt by a simple little 2F will be posted ;)
Shipwreck 10-10-2002, 08:48 AM I like the inboarded rear springs! Looks similar to what Frosty did with his cruiser last year. I bet that will help with the flex a lot. Keep us updated on how it behaves. I'd like to know how it handles off road and on the street.
Oh yeah, the turbo doesn't suck either. :nuke: :)
Mustard Dog 10-10-2002, 08:59 AM Looks like we're going in the same direction with our rigs;)
My propane stuff arrived last night, and it's getting installed on a new motor. I got F150 rears (10" extra) will be inboarded, flip the fronts (4" extra) for a total of 104. We're also gonna tube and narrow the rear like fatkids rig. We plan on making new side panels from aluminum diamond plate and keeping all the same Cruiser horizontal lines:D
cruiserbrett 10-10-2002, 08:59 AM Are you going to use the long pitman arm of the scout box? It is a bit long, which will make for really quick steering...
Nice pinion angle in the second pic;)

I don't know yet. I will figure that out when I have the box mounted. Basically the Turbo really gets in the way of hte steering shaft. So I might have to move the box fairly close to the firewall for it to fit.. I do not want to use the sag arm but I might have to. Also the Hydro makes tighter steering easier to deal with..
My pinion angle will be perfect when I actually recieve the adapters to stuf dual mini tcases behind my SM420...
:)
rugburn 10-10-2002, 09:26 AM What's your take on the exhaust routing to get this beast fired up?
Do you want a SuperTrapp 2.5" SS unit for the ass end????
I think it is 10" long, I used it on my F until it blew up.
Clean and ready to go..
Let me know.

I was going to use the flowmaster that I have right now but a supertrapp might be super easy... And the tunability would be very nice to see what the turbo likes..
Hmmmmm.....

You guys are all bit'n off my junk. Just kiddn I gots chevy rears, and tubed the back half, which keeping that upper tube where the top of the tub would be,is better i have mine right above where the tub line used to be and it looks a little high. I did not inboard my chevys for stability. Plus the way i conected them to the lover 28' wide botom tubes looks bitchen. Ill try to get pics of it up soon, and the way i mounted all of the Propane stuff without fenders.
Rugburn Is it for sure only a 10 inch Super trap i am looking for one on my 350.

Spyder 10-10-2002, 02:47 PM Did you find someway to increase fuel delivery under boost? Intercooler? What did you do about oil lines? What exhaust manifold is that? Boost gauge?
Thanx
Mitch

Fuel delivery is dependant on air flow with a propane mixer..
No intercooler. That is why I really need a snorkle..
Oil is run from the oil pressure feed.
Exhaust manifold is stock...
Boost gauge is going to be a mechanical autometer unit..

spewing about the proliferation of parts on the wrong side of the engine bay :( as with anything i guess, it ends up blowing out in costs and time!!

The turbo is a Garrett T04. That should spool up fully at about 2500rpm. it is attached to the stock exhaust with an adapter. The Turbo is a "wet" system. Which means that the propane/air mixture is fed directly through the turbo. Vs a blow through system (the carb is after the turbo) I had to convert the 465 holley to mechanical linkage to run the propane properly. I have no idea how much boost will be supplied. But since the wastegate bolt is missing it should try to produce as much boost as possible. I am hoping for ~12lbs..
The propane is an Impco model E vaporizer and a Impco 425 mixer. The mixer is good to about 500 cfm so it is well matched to this small carb. I run forklift tanks for ease.
Very simple system. And super easy to fix on the trail. That is after you get it figured out.
And no, propane does not have to smell.....
reorx 10-10-2002, 09:30 PM 104" Wheelbase? You guys are running chopped wagons! My WB on my 60 is 105"!! :D Looks good! I never thought of putting a turbo on a 2F... How does it perform? I have TBI injection on my tired 2F (150k mi) and it really woke it up.

arndog 10-11-2002, 07:38 AM curious what it takes to french the hangers. How far did you move the axle back. Did you have to relocated the rear schackle hangers. If so you clearly had to move the perch on the axle which isn't a big deal. What thickness of plate did you use? How did you make up for the difference in spring width and frae width.

All I really did was plate each side of the frame.. With some extra wedges in there to even things up.
The axle is moved back ~11.5" if you look at the second picture and first picture you will see that the shackle is actually mounted to the back of the rear x member..
The axle is a Tacome rear axle. So I had to run new spring perches anyway.. The spring perches are the dodge spring perches..
by mounting the shackle hangers to the rear x member I could make them any width I desired..
sixty 10-11-2002, 03:46 PM Get that thing going so we can drag race!!! :D
finally gettin my 4.88's in  ended up using the carrier that was in the front of my cruiser already....
thats gonna be one sweet setup!!!
Jason M 10-11-2002, 03:56 PM Off the line I think you will win. But all hell should break loose when I hit 2500rpm :D
 :nuke:

Jason,
I think (if the threaded hole is indeed for an adjusting bolt for the wastegate) that the missing bolt would mean no preload on the wastegate spring, hence the wastegate'd open early, and give the lowest boost, not the maximum boost... Anyway, if you have a boost gauge, it'll be easy to find out.
Take care of the temps and everything should be fine... (if the BIG turbo actually spins.. :flipoff2:)
Well, 12psi is high, but hey, it's up to you... :nuke:
Bye,

Hey, bring it on bad boy. We'll see who can go the slowest... ;)
Montrose??? or Los cruces?
Still in the planning??
And thanks for the heads up. I will have a boost gauge on the thing. A bolt is an easy thing to replace..
And no fenderwells so hopefully heat will dissapate quickly.. If the big turbo does not spin well then I will go to a smaller turbo or do some adjusting on the veins on this one :)
Sweet, Rice burner!!!
Now I gotta get me one of those neon exhaust tips and a TYPE R stickers ;)
Advent Horizon 10-13-2002, 12:43 PM There's a place around here called "Phat Customz" (actual spelling) that stocks 'em, I was planning on getting a set anyways...hehe
