its almost time for faze three on the ol' durango. my question is what is the cheepest way to be enabled to do a front dig via the tc? to be more specific, can i just "swap in" a 205? if so which one am i looking for, besides being a driverside drop? i am baiscally looking for knowlage on tc's since my dvr ate my episode of xtreme 4x4. 99'D 318,231d,sasd44/d60 thanks!

Cheapest/ short-term= flipped D300
Long-run better option (IMO)= Atlas

Going to have to agree. You aren't going to find a NP205 that is driver's drop that will mate to your transmission without a lot of work. The NP205 that will bolt up was passenger drop and since it was not used in the '94 and up trucks, Dodge never had a driver's drop NP205. The Atlas is not cheap, but if you are planning on doing something like a front dig, you are probably at the point in the rigs evolution to take advantage of an Atlas' features.

I can't say for sure because I've never tried it but I have a Ford NP205 laying here is it looks a little odd and appears to be a little smaller than a typical Dodge/GM NP205. Also a lot of parts will swap between the Dodge and GM versions but most parts listings show the Ford parts are unique. You would probably have to talk with someone who rebuilds both to be sure but it doesn't look good. Search a bit as I'm sure this has come up here on Pirate at some point in the past.

The 2.0 low range of the 205 absolutely sucks off road (rock crawling, deep snow) the 2.62 in the D300 is bearable, but would likely leave you wanting for a 4:1, which would lead to larger outputs and whoala you are just shy of the cost of going with an atlas from the get-go.
Calculate your current crawl ratio and do the same with the 205, you will likely be 20 points + lower currently

thanks guys for your input. i think i'm gonna keep my eyes and ears open and stew a while. $2000+ for an atlas is a little steep for someone who's not working.
