Ok back story then where I lie.

4 months ago my jeep just died on the trail, 5 min later it started up and wheeled for another few hours, then just died again, however would not start and I had to be trailered home:( Did my diagnosis had spark but no fuel, changed the whole fuel pump assembly, problem fixed.

Now I drive about 1 1/2hours to the trail and stop so my friends can unload, jeep dies but wont start up, let it sit for 5-10 min and it started up just fine so we moved on, 30min later after just driving down the logging roads it dies again but did not stay running.

The problem is that it starts up and dies right away. If i keep the key turned forward it will stay running rough, but as soon as i let the key go to the on position it dies.

Things I have done so far:

cps, fuel pressure regulator, new injectors and connections(mine were loose), ignition switch, plugs and wires(for fun), computer is good(does same with a new one pluged in)

Next in line is to do a new distributer.

Questions i have are:

am i supossed to have fuel pressure when i turn the key to the on possition? I do not, however when i am turning it over i have the 39lbs that are in spec. If i disconnect the fuel line to the rail and turn it over, it shoots fuel like nobody's business.

Im just sick of throwing parts at this thing. Anyone help?

does your jeep have a fuel pump ballast? if so try jumping it and see if this fixes your problem.

no check engine light is on. it is a 90 cherokee with a newer motor and a open loop cooling system.

can you replace just the pickup in the distributor??

try jumping the fuel pump ballast first. it lowers the voltage going to the pump after startup to make the pump run quieter. its a little ceramic looking thing on the fender with 2 wires hooked to it. unhook the wires and hook them together and see if it solves the problem

can you replace just the pickup in the distributor??

pulled apart the distrubitor and cleaned up the parts in the distributor, keep in mind i am currently on a super tight budget, i dont have the cash to buy $40 tools to test to see if something is wrong.

Next time it stops take off the gas cap,the tank might not be venting.Sounds crazy, but it happened to a friend.Doesnt cost anything to try it...

Did you ever change the fuel filter?

Haven't messed with Jeep FI but Ford FI systems will start the fuel pump for a second when you turn the key to on, then shut it off if its not getting a dist/CPS signal. So you have to be ready for it when you turn on the key.

To me it sounds like a pluged filter.

Check the fuse for the PCM (power control module), it should be in the fuse block inside the jeep. It's what triggers the fuel pump initially, and then the relay kicks in to keep it running.

My TJ has been doing the same thing, checked all the parts you mentioned and it turned out to be a 50 cent fuse!

I'm no auto electrician, so maybe someone else can explain it better:(
It's hard to diagnose the blown fuse, because you have to cycle the ignition to test.
