hey guys. i am replacing my slipping AW4 with another AW4 that has been sitting for about 2 yrs.
my questions are:
what do you guys recomend i do to it before i install it? i am planning on changing the pump seal. What else should i do as far as prepping it?

should i use the original TC from the slipping tranny or the one i got with the used tranny that has been sitting for 2yrs.?

tranny fluid, should i stick with DEX III (or II) or something else? ive read alot of threads and i know some of you guys run synthetics.

any tips on flusing system?

Regular Dextron 2 or better is fine and recommended for the AW4.

If it were me I'd pull the pan on the "new" tranny and make sure that there are not any suprises. I've found that if someone flushed out the fluid after cooking an AW4 that it'll be pretty obvious by looking at the pan scum.

As far as the TC goes, if the inside of the new tranny looks good, I'd stick with the convertor that is on it - rather than your slipping one which may have some metal in it.

what would be better than Dextron?
the guy i bought it from is a well known Cherokee fanatic in my area and he claims it was tight when he rolled the donor cherokee. i'll remove the pan and have a looksy. :)

What I meant was Dextron 2,3 or 4 - whatever it is they are selling these days ;)
