I have a chance to purchacse a 1989 Yamaha XT 600 , has about 1800 miles on the whole bike,it is in good shape ,except it has been sittin for a couple of years or so.
The I have is that it seems like the carb is gummed up and does not want to idle,is that a big deal? never been in those carbs before.
I think it just needs a good cleaning any particulers to know about.
Thanks ahead of time for any info.

Yeah motorcycle carbs are prety easy to rebuild. I'd suggest buying a rebuild kit and a gallon of berrymans to soak the parts in for a day or two.

Those XT600's make shitty dirt bikes... look at the bottom of the "frame", it uses the skid plate as the FRAME...

But that said two years ago me and a friend were at the little sluice and someone rode one of those bikes by with NO SKID PLATE.... so ignore my other comments??

How much are you going to pay for it??

Before you tear the carb apart, how old is the gas in it?? You can drop the float bowl and do a pretty good cleaning from there... and spray carb cleaner through the fuel hose too!! Make sure the air filter is clean also..

It has a single carb on it Smurfsdad.
It will start up pretty easy when it is cold, but it is a little hard when it gets warm.It will also flood pretty easy to, I know alot of it will be getting use to the personality of the bike, they all seem to have there quirks.
The skid plate is a detachable one to.
I will put some fresh gas in it tomorrow, and see how that does.
Smurfsdad I appreciate the offer to help, I will be intouch in a few days.
Also the carb has stamped on the side YDLS .

The TT600's have a full real frame under the motor, where the XT's use the skidplate as the frame ... and I'm not sure, but the oddometer on a TT wouldn't go to 1800miles.

Got one more I tore the carb down and it was full of dirt, soaked it and cleaned it out bike Idles and runs good putting around, but when you get on it hard it will sputter a bit and take off, I'm thinking it is the accelerater pump ,plus It is very hard to restart after it is warmed up. I put in a brand new plug in it to.

not sure a bike has a accelerater pump? I sat pull it apart again and clean good, did U remove the welch(sp) plugs when U cleaned it?make sure to blow it out w/air, and if U don't have a repair book, get one.

its common for a 4 stroke to do that it just depends on how bad it does it
