I was told it was from a Asian country type rally buggy. I want to know about the chassis and suspension setup. And if there is a blue print or plans for the frame roll cage. I found these pics somewhere and didnt have any info with them.

Yes it does look cool. And it is what I want as far as LIGht and small. Perfect for what I want. Just need to know how they did it or get so plans on what they used.

Looks to me like they started with a tube chassis and went from there...

They are from Japan, not Mexico, and every one of the competition buggies look the same. Don't know much about them though.

There are some more pics and vids in the ultralight buggy thread in general, and pictures floating around in a few other places.

Anyone have the web site to these? Not the one on Pirate I have read most of it. I am interested in the motor they used and how they routed it in. Cause that is the nicest looking and cleanest looking rig I have seen. Light and small to me means being able to haul it and not kill my 1/2 ton truck and still get good gas mileage. That and light means least likely to break something and easier to extract if I got stuck.

Thailand, not Japan.

Most of them have very similar specs. due to the race style and comp.regulations:-

Engine: Nissan SR20DET or Toyota 3S-GTE
Trans: mate with Toyota LandCruiser 70 / 75 / 78 Series (SWB) or Daihatsu??
Axle: Toyota LandCruiser 70 / 75 / 78 Series (4.88)
Tire: 35in. (stated by comp.regulation)
Suspension: almost of them are rear 4links & front radius arms (Toyota LandCruiser 78 Series) cause they don't need much flex.
Chassis: DOM Tube 1.5in.
Weight: approx.2000~2500lbs.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

I would just copy what you see based on the Pics. Find a light weight motor place it on some jack stands and start bending around that and the seats.

I dont think you will find set of prints on them, I would think 99% of them are built like any other chassie, around there owners wish's and needs.

And for anybody that thinks thats an easy buggy to build is dead wrong. The smaller the package the harder it is to jam all you need in it.
Most of the moon buggy that we run in the U.S. are single seat these are light weight two seat, not a moon buggy but about same amount of work in design.

Did you ask over on that Thai forum?

That's where those buggies are, that's who you should be asking.

I am not going to try and ask on the Tai site. Communication errors abound there.

If I had some better more detailed pics of the buggy I could do it I think. I would like to know what engine and trans they are using. Cause I have seen videos of those boogers and they are badass high reving tire spinning little engines.

How they fit it in is another question.

I do not want a single seater, I like to have a person with me so I can scare the shit out of them..

And communication errors in your thread.....

Those are the Thai buggies, so far no one from the Thai sites have posted up info on the mighty Pirate 4x4, so now you need to go post up on their forums.

If I had some better more detailed pics of the buggy I could do it I think.

Great, we'd love to see you build one, now go to the Thai sites, post up, ask questions and look through their galleries.

I would like to know what engine and trans they are using.

Here I'll post it up again, please don't miss it this time....

These buggies are from Thailand, that much is true. They are also very common in Malaysia. If you are looking for blueprints on how to build one, forget about it. Not sure about Thailand folks, but Malaysian buggy builders are a handfull, none of them will share with you their blueprints, no do they have them. Some don't speak english others don't know how to use internet.

Your best bet is to come down one day and take as many photos as you can. Thats what others do.

As for engines, recently, everyone begun to switch from sr20det to 3s Toyota engines. Tyres are no more than 35inches, everyone is running same brand, extreme terrain tyres made in Malaysia, they are bets compromise between weight and height.

Suspension is Thailand made (profender or amada extreme), i am aware of only one chap using King Spring (which cost a bomb here).

Chassis are normally taken from Suzuki Samurai or built from scratch using tubes. Some tubing is used to channel radiator coolant in order to save weight.

All of them are running PTO winches combined with Toyota Prado differentials, which makes you winch cable move as fast as your tires, which means they can climb up just about any hill in seconds.

Racing clutch is a must. Axles are Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series 90% of the time.

As for steering, half of buggies are using hydraulic (new trend these days), other half uses normal power steering racks, older buggies are still using steering boxes.

Most of them will have additional set of calipers for rear breaks, air activated in order to lock one of the wheel for faster turning, it works especially well at tight turns.

Gearboxes normally come from Land Cruiser 70 or Daihatsu Rocky (4speed).

None of them using intercoolers or large enough radiators to truly cool the engine, which is not required for short runs.

That is about all you need to know to build one of your own buggies, have fun!!!
