Ok I just bought a 1975 Chevy c10 4x4 and am building a rock crawler out of it. I am building a 383 stroker with a 4 speed tranny. I got 4.88 gears with lockers front and rear and was wondering what flywheel will work best? Could I get away with using a new stock style one or is their an after market flywheel that will work best? I will start a build thread here soon as the weather gets better and I find time after work. Thanks in advance.

Ok cool because I can get a stock one for around 75 bucks. I will have to start a build thread here soon. Just trying to get everything on paper so I can go off a check list.

Make sure you match the balance, whatever flywheel you get. :D

also make sure you grind a used flywheel. any machine shop should be able to handle that for less than 50 bucks.

Ok well plans have changed. I got a deal of a liftime I think. I guy wants to trade me a th400 for my 4 speed and also give me a np203 with it. Guess his son wants a 4 speed. So looks like I'm building it with that setup and mating the 203 with my 205. But thanks for all the info.

and the best part is I'm getting the kit to mate the transfer cases from a buddies dad for a freebe. He got 2 kits by accident online so all I need now is the shift linkage kit from ord.

i would not call a th400 for a 465 a deal of a life time.

i would keep the 465, get his spare kit, and find the stuf to put the 203 behind the 465.

ya run the 465 you have more options in gearing with that then a 400, and you dont have to worry about tranny lines catching fire or anything, tranny temp or slippage really well unless your clutch is shit. but run the 465

Ill See what's up I might just get it and then sell off the TH400 and buy Stuff for the motor to get it rebuilt and then find me a 4 speed later. Its all up in the air now. IM just in a stop with the 4 speed since I can't seem to find a clutch pedal assembly anywhere. unless I go hydraulic.

you can go hydro while using your stock 465 bellhousing, i did it on a 72 jimmy with a 402 big block, you can get all the parts from advance adapters, jcwhitney or a wrecking yard.

bullshit.

you can use the pedal hanger from 73-80 with absolutely no issues, and they are ALL mechanical.

dont even trade and try to sell the 400, it will bite you in the ass, you wont no if the 400 is any good and if it isnt it will come back on you and you will lose out.

you have the 465 in hand, keep it.

I just went to the junkyard today and found a chevy with the steering wheel already out of it and the clutch brakets and bell crank and all the linkage was there. Walked out of there with everything i needed for $40 bucks plus a shifter for the 465 and speedo cable. I already have a bellhousing for mechanical clutch fork so i was stoked. The only thing i need to get is the bellcrank frame braket and i can make one of those out of a piece of angle and drill some hole to mount it to the frame, the factory ones were rivited.

This is all you need
