just installed the RCI tank behind my front seats:

everything worked fine the evening i did it. the next day it took forever to turn over(wanting fuel), finally got it to start and it wanted to sputter like it was about to run out of gas...then die at stop signs.
i shook the wiring around and got it to restart for the trek home. i didnt do a a shitty job wiring it either!!! new 12g wire, new crimped terminals, heat shrink, wire covers, zip ties,...the works. tank also read empty

went ahead and redid it with solder tonight and it started up right away and idled fine. took it for a spin around the block and when i let off the gas it drops to 100-200 rpms. .... tank reads 5/8 full (completely full)

im thinking perhaps the is a kink in the hard line from the engine or too sharp of a bend in one of the new hoses...possibly using 12g wire to connect to 16/18g wire?(wouldnt think so...but...).

any ideas? :(

the sending unit OHM doesn't match the OHM range of your guage. call RCI and ask what OHM range the sending unit is (ie 0-90) and get a guage that is with in it. if your current guage is like 90-240 or whatever it could read backwards and/or only a half tank.

Make sure your fittings are tight and no cracks in lines. Sucking air into the feed line will cause it to want to die when stepping on pedal or with you let off gas. get a clear fuel filter or pressure guage and watch flow pressure and airiation in clear filter.

thanks, but ive got the stock sending unit in it. everything should be same as stock. (and cell depth is 12" same as factory gas tank)

It might sound stupid, but is the fuel cell's cap vented? If not, is the vent on the fuel cell vented? A fuel tank needs to be able to let air in/out to displace the fuel being used and relieve pressure build up. Hope this helps.

thanks, the TJ system is pressurized(if your gas cap is unscrewed it'll throw a code!). i wouldnt think that is it but i will look into it further if todays messing around dosent last; i tightened the hose clamp ALOT on the return line and it has been running fine so far...

Your stock tank ran a vent to the EVAP system..

And your cell should as well.

You will be throwing a code within a couple more starts, or completed drive cycles.

i did, the hose coming off the 90* elbow is hose clamped to the evap line

If you take the gas cap off and try to start it, will it start?

I just put the same setup in my jeep this weekend everything but i used black and red fittings. The first night could not get the jeep to run at all. took it all apart and put it back together works fine, only the strainer was off in the tank from the bottom of the pump so that may have caused it i guess. drove it to the beach this week for sb and it wored great. some time the fuel gauge did not read right after refueling.

everthing fixed itself:smokin:

filled it up again and the guage works fine now.

Did you add screws to the fuel pump assembly to keep the bottom end of the assembly from sliding around from the fuel sloshing around? I had the same sort of problem that you are describing and the bottom end of the assembly had turned at an angle that allowed air to suck into the feed line. This sounds like the problem you are describing. Once the fuel level gets below a certain point it will begin to suck air if the assembly is crooked inside the fuel cell.
