I am wanting to buy a .17 HMR but can't decide between bolt action and lever action... couple questions preside

I am left handed so the bolt has to be on the left side... always more money...and I'm not to quick on the follow up shots with the bolt action, so I started thinking about lever action rifles

Does accuracy suffer due to bullet deformation when put into a lever action gun.... does the polymer tip get screwed up in the mag to the point where it becomes less accurate?

Choice:

Savage left hand .17HMR $225
henry lever action .17HMR $300

thanks

I absolutly love my Savage .17HMR. It's still my favorite gun to shoot, I was just up easily picking off bottles, cans and chew cans at 200 yards this weekend. The accu-trigger seals the deal, it's easy to make it even lighter than factory adjustments allow, I have mine around 1.5# right now.

I have a Marlin bolt action with a modified trigger and bull barrel. One of my favorite rifles.

I have a savage with bull barrel, couldnt be happier. Well, maybe if I got one with accu-trigger but the stock one isnt bad by any means.

For a .17, I wouldnt even consider getting a lever action. Maybe thats just me but it just feels like a bolt gun.

X3 on loving the savage. I got mine new for $149 @ bi-mart on the day after thanksgiving. They go for $189 or so. Add the scope(Bsa sweet 17) for $59 and it's mega fun for any price, let alone just over $210. The ammo isint too bad $11 for 50 rnds. It's like shooting a super power super accurate 22.

I've got a Marlin 917vs and it is probably my favortie rifle. The rifle has a bull barrel, laminated stock, and modified trigger. At 50 yards, its a one-hole gun, not a ragged hole either...:flipoff2:

Snatch one of those puppies up, throw on a 4-12 scope and get ready for some action! From 50-200 yards, they cant be beat!

now at bi-mart is $219 makes me sad

curious... when using a lever gun....does it fawk up the tips of polymer bullets??? due to the action or magazine? I know they haver leverolution bullets now that are polymer tipped but I don't know about them either, (special tip to prevent deformation??)(and I know they don't make leverolution in .17)

I think part of the question is what do you want to use it for?

Walking the woods and shooting squirrels or rabbits at 30 yards I'd go lever

If I wanted to shoot longer distance, P-dogs say, I'd go bolt

.17HMR (Marlin 917V w/MPV scope) is my favorite rifle to shoot

I wouldn't think the .17 would have enough recoil to deform the polymer tips in a lever action, and I don't imagine the magazine spring would do it, either.

I have a Henry .22, and the way it feeds wouldn't allow the tips to be messed up during feeding.

Just my .02 on the lever question, but it really does come down to what Singletracker said about what you're using it for.

if you are worried about follow up shots why would you go with bolt or lever, a semi auto feed you dont have to move a muscle and you can continue tracking with out any issues.

Ruger Model 96 is a lever, similar style as the 10/22. Uses the same type rotary magazines. I have one in 17hmr and my follow up shots are much faster than I can get with my bolt action. I'm also left handed.
