Dosnt the Raptor have reverse?? Does that count to you??
Where you going to ride??

The 400ex can go as fast as a quad can go with the right ridder..... unless were talkin about the dunes??

I have the 400Ex, and love it. The Raptor has a number of issues, that I wouldn't feel like dealing with. The reverse isn't that big of a deal to me. The 400 handles better, is more reliable, more stable, smoother power delevery, less$.

But just my $0.02

k...so what are the issues with the raptor you dont want to deal with?

I plan to ride it everywhere...dunes...trails...fire roads..etc

I've whitnessed the water pump go bad, just about everything viberate loose. Things that I have heard about, Carbs poping off, chain adjusters breaking in the sand, cam gears coming through the top of the head

The 400EX is the total package. It has plenty of power, great handling, and excellent suspension. The only place where it lacks power is in the dunes but it rules on hills and trails.

400ex is a good lil bike. I have rode one alot. Easy wheelies and very light. But nothing beats the 250R's..

250r all the way!!
oh ya 400ex is better handling a little slwer and now reverse but hceapr i say put the money saved into the 400ex motor and you have better handling and faster for same price or cheaper.

I was just out rideing my Banshee at Hollister last week and some guy had a canondale quad. It was the fastest god damn thing i have ever seen. It is also fuel injected. But he did say it cost him 10 grand.

I'd say it definitely depends on your intended terrain. Wide open stuff and dunes calls for a 2 stroke for the most fun. Tighter trails, or rougher, rocky terrain is more suited for a four stroke.

i ride everwhere and the raptor kills the 400 in everthing, but it is a lot more money. remember the raptor is new and it can only get better as they work the bugs out

get an old burned out banshee with a blown moter and put a steet bike engine in it .they go like hell. but there really only good for the sand or street
