Hey Guys,
I'm looking at picking up a rear axle to match my 78 F350 D60 that's sitting in my garage...
The seller of this rear axle knows nothing (3 hr road trip) other then it came out of a Ford econoline van and he says it's a 60. I'm interested due to the fact that it has disc brakes on it.
What year did Ford change bolt patterns?

Any help would be appreciated!

The van's never changed to the metric bolt pattern. Looks to me like a late 80's or early 90's....should be 35 spline

Being a a disc axle, it's 96 or newer. Should be 35 spline for sure, might even be a 60U.

Wasn't sure when they disc'd um from the factory....guess someone could have always swapped the discs on them lol....sometimes its hard for me to look at oem stock and not think someone has messed with it

60u? Better/worse? Not familiar with it...
Good to know that the econoline never changed patterns.
Keep the comments coming :)

Think 70U, smooth bottom, but a 60 version.

It may be a 32spline version, but 35 spline axle shafts will fit without he need to bore the spindles.

Isn't a smoothe bottom 70 really a 71?

Nope, it's a 70U, takes standard gears et al. Supposedly the 3.08 geared axles are a 71, but, from what I've seen browsing Dana info, it's just a different carrier.

it will be semi-float if it is out of a van with discs...

In our fleet of vans at work I believe they are all full-float with discs, not sure if ours are 60s or 70s though.

Definitely a full floater...
Owner got back to me saying the WMS-WMS is about 68". Also figures it came out of a 98ish van...
