: Rear Warn axle replacement options
64rcs 03-20-2010, 01:48 PM I broke a Warn axle in the rear of my Scout D44 w/ full floater kit. The axle housing was bent when I bought it, and both shafts were scored from rubbing on the housing prior to it being straightened and trussed. I notified Warn and was told that Randy's R&P has taken over their axle division and for warranty coverage I needed to send them the axle and copy of proof of purchase. I bought the axle used so I'm screwed on the warranty(no invoice), plus with the past bent housing and the very obvious rub marks on the shafts, the warranty would be void anyway.
Where is a good place for double splined shafts with good warranties? I appreciate the input.

REDDMANIAC 03-20-2010, 02:19 PM definitey check the vendor section, Id say ecgs perhaps, but many others Id like to recommend too.
uglyscout 03-20-2010, 05:27 PM Did you cal Randy's? I know you don't have proof of purchase - But I am sure they could sell you a new one...
Diesel Smoke 03-20-2010, 06:37 PM CTM makes doubled splined shafts as well. You'll pay for them, but with CTM you know the warranty will stand.
JetFxr 03-20-2010, 07:47 PM Todd glad to see your post, I have had Warn frt axles before and a FF rear kit also. Every time I have popped an axle I was told by Warn its my fault ie bent housing or loose joint, bottom line they say life time but never had any luck getting them to stand behind them. I am glad to see they sold of the axle division and hopefully Randy's will do a better job with it. I think they do a great job with winches but got over there head with so many products. I wanted to see what the Pirates had to say about axles, I have Alloy USAs in my frt and they were a good buy 600 bones axles and joints with a no questions ask replacement policy, now they are Ten factory and I've heard they are still a stand up company. I would like to have CVs in my frt no power on bind while in a turn, but don't know when that will happen ~just started making them ~. I would think you can get the double splined shaft from several suppliers, just wandering who has had good luck with who. Side note Ten factory may also produce the shafts for you.
edit:The fuker that sold you that junk, ripped you off and should be beat:flipoff2:
64rcs 03-21-2010, 11:53 AM So far I have quotes ranging from $225-$400 per shaft. One with lifetime warranty to original buyer, one with 5 year warranty. Hopefully more quotes will come in with the work week.
Davethorik 03-21-2010, 12:45 PM at what point do you decide i'm throwing all of this money into a dana 44, time to upgrade?
JetFxr 03-21-2010, 01:27 PM For a family trail rig I would really think upgrade through. The cost of wheels, locker, and all the fitment is stupid for a weekend wheeler. Trussing the housing was a great step as long as you don't go stupid with the tires, I think the axle will live. I am thinking you can get better prices for the axles if you shop around, if not I can have a set resplined here in Billings, I don't think I could get them in chrome-molly.
Besides from what I've seen you go to 60s then your lookin at Rocks and thats a little overboard for a weekend warrior. I had a 60 and 14bolt in my Scout at one time, spent most of the time watching others enjoy the challenge. Just saying if the folks you ride are all on 33s then a Scout on rocks and 44s will be over kill. I feel the group you ride with should be a consideration to your upgrades.

Have to much(for me) into this axle to just scrap it and start over. Guess starting with a 60 would have made more sense, but Robert(jetfxr),more or less, gave the axles to me so how could I turn that down?
junkcollector 03-21-2010, 02:38 PM I'm not sure if your axles are offset or not, but herm the overdrive guy sells a full floater set, or axles for the jeep offset 44. He may be able to help.

Nope, scout D44, but I'll give him a try.
Thanks

Just got off the phone with them....and the parts guy claimed that this particular kit is obsolete and he couldn't even get me a axle let alone two. So much for Warn, won't do that again.
JetFxr 03-22-2010, 03:12 PM Todd this may be right up your alley, Ten factory is on the board, Racing Ron.

64rcs 03-23-2010, 10:55 AM I assume these won't work??
http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/products/CUSTOM-LENGTH-30-SPLINE-TOYOTA-AXLE-SHAFTS.html
I have tried to find the difference in spline pitch between the toy shaft and a d44, couldnt come up with anything.
larboc@hotmail.com 03-23-2010, 11:04 AM screw it, build a rear steer d44 and use some shortend longsides!
JetFxr 03-23-2010, 11:24 AM Ask Bobby those look like the answer sence they are coustom sized should be goooood. I would pose the questions to them, I know they were looking at D44 frt CVs so they should have all the info.
64rcs 03-24-2010, 05:27 PM Talked to Bobby at Longfields today and the 30 spline toyota shafts have a different spline pitch than a 30 spline D44. Bummer. I also talked to a local machinest that can respline shafts, and it's just not cost effective. By the time I bought two blank shafts and paid a shop to spline them, I would be in deeper than if I just bought a set from a vendor here. Guess there just isn't really a cheaper way around it.
