I have done a search , and I know that they make a chip , but my friend would like to know if the chip really shows any improvement or not ? Has anyone ever used one or know anything about them? His jeep is a 94 yj, 6 cylinder , 3 and 1/2 inch lift , 33 inch tires , and 411 gears, He drives it everyday to and fro work.He needs more power on the highway , especially when the wind is blowing. I know that re-gearing would help , but would like to know about the chip... Any info would be great. Thanks:confused:

waste of time.
its often said that it takes the computer just a few drives to "learn" the mods and adjust, making no apparent gains.
i cant really verify that, but out of the many many people ive seen do this, i cant think of one that said theyd do it again.
id suggest more worthwhile power mods, and procrastinating with the gearing is going to only soften whatever other power improvements made.

The consensus is they arent worth the resistors theyre made with, but they do this: 3hp on a manual, 7hp on an auto, not 10 at the wheels like jet says

I disagree w/ all your above statements. What resistors are in a performance chip?:flipoff2:

It sounds like your friends motor is stock and I doubt even w/ burning your own custom prom on a dyno that you would pick up any noticeable increase in power I personally think the 4.0 is way over rated compared to the 2.5 power sucks on both motors sounds like its time for a v8!

kamikazi as an answer to you q:

4.0 I6 (Factory ratings 190hp@4600-4750rpm/225lbft@3000-3950rpm)

1. Accurate Power intake: 8hp
2. Turbo City or Accurate Power TB: 3hp
3. Poweraid TB spacer: 3hp
4. Intake manifold heatshield: ?
5. HP plugs: 0-2hp
6. Splitfire plug wires: 3hp/5lbft
7. Cat-back exhaust: 5hp
8. High-flow cat: 2hp
9. Tri-Y header/S-pipe: 10hp
10. JET Stage 2 PCM: 3hp
11. Speedtweaks IAT adjuster: ?
12. Electric fan conversion: 3hp/3lbft

With all the external bolt-ons listed above, output should be about 225-230hp. Beyond that, internal engine mods or forced induction are needed:

13. Ported stock cyl. head: 6hp/2lbft
14. Accurate Power big valve head: 16hp/7lbft
15. Crane #753901 camshaft with 9.5:1 CR: 20hp
16. Accurate Power 4.6L stroker engine: 75hp/105lbft over stock
17. Accurate Power supercharger: 85hp/90lbft over stock
18. Nitrous Express kit: 50-75hp/90-135lbft over stock

I dunno, I never really belived in them, and if I put a chip on my 2.5 with the K&N allready installed I'd have to go to 60's, my Dana 44 and 9" would never last.....

One of my club members put one on his 4.0 HO and said it really picked it up, when he swapped to a Chevy 350 he sold the chip to the president of our association, and he said it really pepped up his 4.0 too. I know having the right chip for any more than mild internal mods (cam, head work, etc) makes a huge difference, getting the right chip seems to be quite a task for some applications and mods.

Most of the HP gains you get from a chip are on the higher RPM band, 4K+. I don't know about you, but mine rarely sees 4K unless I'm in the sand.
