I blew out my CV for a second time on my HAD shaft and decided to DIY one instead of the local driveline shop. They wanted $450 to replace it. So I bought two junkhard ones and chopped them down to fit. Easy and under $150 for the pair (now I have a spare). The only issue is that my 14 bolt has a 1410 yoke on it and the (stock F250 front) driveshafts are setup to use a 1350 ujoint.
To resolve this, I can either swap out the yoke so that it fist 1350s ($70) or buy 1350-to-1410 conversion ujoints ($30 each). I am concerned about the possibility of binding with the smaller 1350s though. Legitimate concern? I prefer to have parts store available parts if at all possible. My rig is very Spartan. I'm not overly concerned about strength.... or should I be?
Is a stock 14 bolt yoke a 1350? If so, I can easily pickup one of those and drill out the threads for ubolts.
So what's the best route, conversion Ujoints or convert the yoke? Any other concerns that I'm missing?
