I hope this is not posted in the wronge area.Anyways I have a head 7120 casting # off 94 cherokee. The problem is I cant find valve spring shims for it seems comp cams summit and jegs and countless web searches has left me guessing. The smallest is 1.25 which is to small the next size up 1.45 or a little smaller. The rough measurment i took 1.34-1.36 maybe 1.38.What to do?Do I take the 1.4 what ever and have it machined down or does some one make these shims and comp cams and me just dont know what were looking for. Thanks!

The thickness of shims you are mentioning dont make any sense. Generally shims will come in standard sizes, 10 tho, 15 tho, 20 tho, 30 tho, etc. I have set up many heads and if I am within 1-2 tho of install height to provide on the seat spring pressure I will call it good. You can do the math to determin the affect of error on your overall seat/ open pressures, it wont be much. Is this error on the exhaust valve? If so did you engine come with rotators?
Give a little more info on the cam, spring, heads, measurements taken, etc and I can help yah.

Its not the thickness of the shims its the over all outside diameter and the inside diameter.Perhaps the inside would be the same for alot of heads its mainly the outter diameter I having a problem with not the thickness or how much it raises the spring.I hope I understood what you said. All the valve train comp are there.Thanks.

Ok, so if I understand you correctly you are looking for a shim with the sam OD and ID as your valve spring? The type of valve spring shim will be corrispond to the type of spring pocket and valve guide you are running. For most applications, as long as the valve springs sits on the shim and fits inside the pocket on the cylinder head, you are good to run. its not going to be dead nuts the OD or ID of the valve spring. As long as the spring flats sead on the shim run it. The spring pocket will locate the spring, the shim is just adjusting the install height. Did that answer your question?

I measured the pocket or seat and it was approx 1.38 and change. The shims I find on the internet start out at 1.25 and then jump up to 1.40+.That would not fit into the seat and 1.25 would be to small I think?
