I've been out of mountain bikes for awhile so i'm not sure of prices and all that is going on in the world etc. So i'm thinking of buying this bike and these are the specs i have is it worth it?

1999 schwinn straight six frame
zyzzyx fork 6"travel
hope hubs
rear discs with magure front hydraulic brakes
cook bros. ckanks
shimano 9 spd rear
sun rhyno rims

It's set up for downhill but has a two sprocket front so i hope to use it as a freeride bike $1222.00. what do you think?

If its not worn out, that sounds like a "fare" price....

BUT, for 1200-1500$ there are alot of pretty good buys out there on new bikes.

If I remeber right, the "Straight Six" bike should have really been called the the "Straight Four or maybe Four and a quarter"

better deals out there for the cash

can anybody tell me the better deals out there for the price I have looked and there isn't much for a grand out there that i find appealing they are all like 2000 at least. All i know is i want a nice freeride bike and i used to have a sweet ( in my opinion) sant cruz heckler with downhill forks and i loved it but can't afford something like that again.

Also other websites that deal with this would help me out

Thanks

Specialized's FSR line is tried and true, the suspentioin design known as the horst link is a great design, and severl companies have used this, Specialized and AMP research being two of them

The old ZZYZX fork was the "budget" freeride fork, way back around 96-97 when it came out. They had huge stanchions, and were pretty cool. I wold be vary of a worn to crap one. The technology of forks has gotten SO much better. Cant go wrong with a bomber. The staight six isnt 6 inches of travel like was aaid as well. The spec. FSR line is pretty good, especially the enduro. "Freeride Lite", if you will, still rideable for cross country. If you want a full on freeride, id say a bighit , also from specialized, or for like 600 bucks a P1. Bomber, 8 inch (cable) discs, chainguide, huge wheels.
Riding rigid will make you good, riding single speed will make you better. then, remove the front brake. you will be God

Stole the words out of my mouth... they're okay forks, but there's alot of other stuff out there now.

Watch out for the Big Hits... I hear that 24" rear wheel can make it squirrely sometimes.

My friend may be selling his Bullit frame soon. I think it's a 00 or 01. Let me know if you're interested.

Check out MTBR.com I was just looking last night and they have a couple of bullit/Boxxer setups that are prety built. You DON'T want disc rear/Hydro rimmies in the front. Unless you like scrubbing your way around corners.
