which is a better idea? iron for durability and simplicity? I'm thinking about 5.0L ford and am wonder what heads to use. They have to be legal. Stock (proabably polished) 351 heads? World products SR heads? something else? Is $500 for a bare block fully preped .030 over too much? I like the ford for 2 reasons, no air lines on the headers, tons of legal affordable EFI options (unlike chevy!) I was also thinking about a mopar magnum because it wouldn't be too hard to bolt to my ax-15 (and upgrade to a future NV3550). But the Magnums get crappy milage ya? Or is that because they're in heavy ass Rams and Durangos?

if you got the money Trick flow heads work bad ass. Or if you want a simple setup just run a Ford motorsports came, good intake, headers and a cobra computer and you should be close to 300 horspower, H8monday runs something like this.

Roush performance makes one of the best 5.0 heads around but why bother, you're wheeling not racing right?
Check the late '90's Ford Explorers, they came with the 5.0L w/ factory iron GT40 heads.

I bet the magnums could get better mileage if you work with em especially in a lighter rig

you can do better on the block than that if you look around, hell summit has bare 5.0 blocks for under $350 new. the aluminum heads are nice but not needed for a jeep really, those cast gt-40 heads are plenty good.

another vote for the cast iron gt40p heads. But you cant beat the performance or weight savings of the aluminum aftermarket heads if you have the extra cash to spend.
For a budget get some E7TE's Can be found fairly cheap on the clasifieds of any mustang sites:
stangnet
corral
etc.

Not true, not all Chevy's have air injection lines to the headers. My LT-4 and its stock manifolds have no provision for air injection lines. Also, of course it has aluminum heads and as long as you have adequate cooling they shouldn't be a problem.
The only advantage of aluminum heads on a wheeler that I can see is small weight savings. But with all the tubing I have I am sure I have killed any weight savings 10 times over.
I think 5.0 swaps are cool but I think the wiring and hoses I have seen on most of the swaps is a little messer than with the Chevy's - of course it could be that most of these swaps I've seen the owner didn't much care either. Have you considered a 351 Lightening? More cubes are always better for torque, if not over cammed.
