Got the Shift kit installed in the used TF 727 (Lockup Version) out of an 82 Cherokee with the 258! This is going into an 89 Wrangler to replace the AX-15! From what I've read (searched) this 231 should bolt right up. It does, but it doesn't go into the back of the tranny far enough to get to the rear seal! Is there something I missed here?

some 231s are flush and some the input shaft sticks out a bit, you may need the one that protrudes. yours should be a 23 spline from the 15, the peugout is a flush mount 21 spines.
good luck, you might be able to change the input shaft.

If you need the one that protrudes, I'll have it soon as I am putting a tera low in. Lemme know if you need it.

My T.C. measures 1" and 3/16ths from the mounting surfaces to the end of the input shaft. The TC would have to measure 1" 7/8ths to get into past the seal in the tranny housing. Does this sound like the right NP231?

Couldn't you just put a double lip seal in the 231 and seal up the mating flange between the 2? Just assuming the 231 has a front seal, I've never been into one myself. The double lip seal will keep the fluid separate between the 2 gear boxes.:)
