I need to know which axle i have if the reaing retaing plate bolts measure 3 3/8" x 2".

Also i thought i had a leaking wheel cylinder on my axle and come to find out the oil is coming from the bearing retainer plate so i guess a seal in the axle has gone bad. Is the seal for the Ford 9" near the carrier? Or by the wheel bearing and retainer plate? What does it cost usually to replace that bearing and seal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm curious which side it was? There’s a seal just inside the axle tube behind the bearing, if it happens again soon it typically will keep happening just as fast, also what size tires are you running, I ask because a friend has a theory why once it happens it's hard to get a seal to last. Good Luck & thanx.

Its on the driver side. There seems to be alot of play in that bearing as well. I had a stuck drum so i had to beat the hell out of it to get it off so im sure that didnt help the bearing either. Im getting a strange mild grinding noise as well. Its probably that bearing going out or something in my pumpkin not getting enough oil. Im running 33" all terrain type tires.

You didn't mention the size of your brakes, Ford did alot of wacky stuff w/ the early Bronco . The cost of the maintence is pretty cheap though , about $60 total should cover it . Bearings ,seals , if your lucky a shop or parts store with a real shop too press off the old bearings & to install new ones . good luck

I am not sure with those measurements- if it has the 1/2 bolts it is the large bearing. The seal is right behind the bearing, get a new bearing that is why the seal is leaking. Really a pretty easy job.

Bearing $25 Seal $5-7 Pressing bearing on/off $10-$30 depending on the shop
