I bought a F350 yesterday and it has gooseneck plate under bed and has threaded bung in plate. Texas truck prbably only hauled cattle.....LOL
So I went a few place today to get ball and they dont carry what they do carry is only rated for 10k not 24-25k like most goose balls.

Heres the low down on sizes
depth top (flush w/ bed) to bottom (bottom of bung under plate): 2.5"
width side to side of hole measures 1.75" possible it could be 2" with threads just measuring opening.

Another thing for the life of me where did they have safety chains attached
did they have a ball like this

heres some pics to put in perspective

I know a lot of guys that don't even run safety chains on their gooses, my truck has a ball and no where for chains. I think its stupid as shit, but oh well, if I ever haul one I will fab up somewhere for chains.

i have never seen a 10k gooseneck ball. i have seen 1.25" shank,2 5/16 balls for bumper pulls rated at 10k.

my 25k gooseneck ball came from tractor supply and has a 1.25" shank. if your threads are bigger than that, maybe its set up for a 30k or bigger ball? id dig around online and see what you can come up with.

im with you guys,i like the notion of safety chains. i made a provision for them on my hitch setup.

My guess is Colibert.

Edit: Nightcrawlers is right, you have probably been looking at bumper pull balls. Gooseneck balls are not universal, they are brand specific.

You see those all over down here in texas. On older farm or cattle trucks.
The way those work.
With a chain plate 2x2x.250 plate with chain hooks mounted to it. You slide the threaded pin tho the the plate and there a lip on the ball it then screw the plate down to the bed..
Most of the time the weak link in a ball set-up is the bottom of the ball. Not the shank.

Its funny ive always been told if your ball breaks. Gas it and get the fuck away from that trailer and let the break-away brakes stop it.

And yes i do run chains on both of my trailers.

Yes, and yes. The P.O. took the plate and ball out to either use the bed, or because they're not cheap. Oh, and safety chains are to protect other people on the road, not the person hauling the trailer. You ever been in a truck that had a hitch break, but the safety chains held? It's not a fun ride at all. My safety chains are rated to match my trailer, but I hope to God that they break loose if my trailer ever comes off.

The worst experience with a goose....
About 18 yrs ago it was fall when my uncle always takes cattle to sale so he dont have to feed over winter.....So of course I use to get recruited to haul loads of cattle to sale...Well I was in a 92 F350 SRW hauling heavy as usual....No breakway box......Chains hooked and honking up I-64 running 60-65mph on a busy afternoon when driveshaft decides to take a dump at tcase....well ass end of truck takes a jump and of course the latch on neck (worn as hell) comes loose and "ITS ON" asshole went into pinch mode...And trailer starts to swerve then weight of cattle goto playing factor and it rips tailgate/chains plum out & off truck and then starts coming up towards drivers side of bed.......Then I think oh shit what if...And it does It heads downs divided median (about 30' wide) and comes to rest 5' short of oncoming traffic all I could do was coast and watch it all play out.....That was a scary day and to top it off we had 5 of 12 cattle put down by vet on side of interstate. A new driver seat recovered and new tighty whities...Along with total rebuild of truck from tcase back and new neck on trailer

So I try to do a better inspection of equipment before I peel out with heavy loads

Why not actually measure the threads so you'll know for sure what you need?

Wow ive never seen a fine thread shaft.
It's was funny. I walked therw my father-in-laws step dads barn last weekend. We call it the treasaure barn. I bet he had 5 to 6 of those on the floor. And he want sell nothing out of that place.

Try
Trailer Wheel and Frame Or Husky Trailer. There whole sale trailer parts stores in Houston tx. I bet they have them.

It's a big plate, with a nut welded to the floor. "Homemade" is the brand name, I think...
