Please help, ignition timing and carb adjustment [Archive]

I am trying to help a buddy with his elcamino. We need to know how to set the ignition timing and the carb. It has a 350, mild cam, HEI igniton, and an edlebrock 1400. Any info would be helpful, thank you.

"How" to set the timing.
There is a single bolt going into intake manifold which you loosen. You then rotate the distributor. If you have a gun you need to shine it on the harmonic balancer from the top of the engine. Hopefully you have a slit on the balancer and a little plate with degrees on it.

what to set the timing to.
Timing is dependant on the cam installed. I believe if the cam retains stock timing your looking at around 8*.
