: Lengthening a frame

I have read a few posts about how to cut and splice. I am now wondering where I should cut it.

This is a 1 ton, crewcab, longbed frame.

My original plan was to bolt on a standard cab (already have it) and build a 14 or 15 foot flatbed. Now, I may have the operatunity to trade the standard cab for a crew cab. So I am seriously thinking about bolting on the crew cab and lengthening the rear of the frame to build a 14 or 15 foot flatbed. 14' is the minimum, 15' would be best.

Should I cut it after the cab, right after the frame goes up, or cut it under the cab? was thinking about buying a second one, cutting them at the proper length and splicing them together to gain length. this created 1 splice per side instead of 2. Or should I not worry about it and just cut and stretch?

I would do it right in front of the rear spring hanger.Has far as splicing in a piece or a whole other frame either would be fine.Just do a z cut where you splice them. This will give you more weld area.Maybe plate the inside just to be safe, since I think you will be carrying a rig.Blazin:D

This is pretty cool Ben. Are you making a transporter for your Samurai? By the way, did you sell your Treker? I thought I heard that you had a buyer?

I thought I had a buyer, turns out it was just a wisher. But, by the time I sell the Trekker, then buy all the parts I need for my other rigs, I will have spent the asking price on more parts. So it is probably better to part it out and use the parts myself.

I am building this truck to haul the Toyota. I should also be able to haul an extracab (WB) toyota if needed. Wich would let me haul basically anything that I would need to haul. It will also be dually eventually, but I dont have a dually rear yet. I will aslo be running the metric size tire that is equivelent to a 33", I forgot the exact size.

If all you want do is lengthen the frame to fit the flat bed then take off the bumper and butt weld a piece of channel the length needed to the frame rail.

He is talking about going from a 8 foot bed to a 14-15 foot flat bed. That would be alot of weight behind the rear axle.Would probally be real floaty in the front with a rig on.Blazin
