alright I'm gonna get another bike again, I love the yz250's, but I've heard a lot of good things about the 426 thumper, here's my questions
How much bigger are the nuts on the thumper?
How much heavier is it?
Is the power difference between the two as much of a gap between a 125 and 250?
Thanks in advance
426 all the way i don't like the yz250's....and we have raced them and the 426 always wins except acouple of times on the street just messin around...but i would go with the thumper btw i race in the 125 class here in az and my rm125 ripps it up on top end it's a little screamer
they did a head to head test in a magazine i have, want me to get it out?

I just my yz426 and I love it. It's a different kind of power than my old bike(yz250) and alot faster. Runs like a big block powered pinto. Acording to the maintenance manual it weighs about the same as the old bike. It feels top heavy, might be due to the engine being so tall.
My only complaint is the sucker is pain to start, but once it starts look out! This thing gets it.

I have a 426, definitly a cool bike. If you are used to 2 strokes you're in for a bit of a challenge. This bike is heavier and a little more touchy to ride. It definitly takes more skill, i've noticed my skills have increased on 250's. I ride 125's like they are kids toys now, mainly cause this 426 is so torquey, you have to be careful. Once you master the starting procedure (its a real trickster) its easy. Mine fires first crank every time. I suggest the 426, ita not a bad bike. There's gonna be tons of guys crying all day about how 2 strokes are soooo much better, yeah well they do have advantages, but i think the 426 still has them beat by a small margine. I love the smooth power band and lots of low end torque. With the nice 12 inch travel suspsension it really applies power to the ground well. It is top end heavy, the nose tends to fall faster in big jumps, but goosing the gas keeps it at bay. Good bike and i think it'll make you a better rider.

Ahh, is'nt a YZ426 a two stroke to begin with???
In anycase, I'd only buy the 426 if you are big enough for it, and you have a strong enough leg to kick it over!

anyone can learn tyo ride a bike, and yes the 426 is a 4 stroke, (i catch shit about it alot) Look at Metz, he's freakin 140 pounds and can man handle a 250. Though he's a pro and his better than i could even aspire to dream of Its a bit heavier than a 2 stroke though, but i wouldn't let that stop you from getting it.

The YZ426's are not as good of a trail bike as the 2-stroke YZ250... they have almost no flywheel effect and stall easy... of coarse a pro rider would have NO problem, but the rest of us
I ride a CR500 with a big flywheel and I ride with guys on YZ400/426's and they are JUST as fast as a CR500....
Sure the YZ426 start easy... if you don't get them hot and then flood it my friends swear they know the drill... then they swear at the bike.... I love my 2-smoker

yeah i swear at mine from time to time. I flooded it on top of a sand dune. Holy hell i was exhausted after that escapade. With anything you get better at it with ride time. I don't have many problems anymore. Plus when the bike is new its one sensitive bitch. It stalls all the time and throttle response is kinda shitty. Give it a chance put some hours on it, mine runs like a top now. As for it being as fast as a CR500, i dunno, i've never raced anyone but i'd like to give it a go. 500's are fast man, damn fast

The first time I rode on the street with my friend on his YZ400 (and me on CR5) I thought I would be able to pass him like a 250..... NOT... I am very bummed, but I aint gonna lie about it I know alot of ridding is the rider and all, but once were talking this much power, its TOO much power for a knobby to handle on or off the street... but I guess thats what makes them SO much FUN!!

that older 400 really isn't a fair comparison, the new 426 has many better parts and designs from what i've read. The titanium valve train like the F1 cars really builds top end power. You're right about bikes that have this much power, its hard to get it all to hook up with out throwing your ass off, but hey thats the cool part right! Whats nice is the suspension travel. I raced a guy on a 650 on the street, albeit it was purely for fun and i new he could smoke me. I beat him off the line cause of my suspension. I could put more power down faster than him. Mine is far from a street machine in fact i rarely will drive it on pavement even at my house, its just scary. Hey whens that new honda 450 supposed to be out. Thats gonna be a screamer. i found a deal on a 250 today (2stroker) I think i might pick it up for something else to play with. Kyron you take that CR500 to the dunes much? They rule the dunes out here
ok this is for 2001,stock bikes
yz426f=248 lbs. and 47hp@9600rpm
yz250=226 lbs. and 43.7hp@8800rpm
both could be easily changed with a pipe.

Thats kinda what I was sayin... I have friends that have both, the 400 and the 426, they say the 426 is a tad quicker So now how bummed ya think I am
I havent ridden this 500 in the dunes, I had an 87 CR500 and I almost lived there at Pismo
