: What Pirate Was in Anderson SC Today?
GJarrett 10-12-2002, 08:51 PM Go ahead and flame me, but I have thick skin and want to know... :D
I'm new to the SC area having moved from Dallas, so I don't normally expect to ever see a Pirate (whom I assume are mostly on the west coast). Today I just watched someone with a Pirate sticker try the rockcrawling event at the Carolina 4x4 Jamboree but I didn't get a chance to go talk to him. Who was that?
perfect example of the confusion between the Pirates Of The Rubicon Club, and just some chronie with a skull and cross bones sticker
GJarrett 10-12-2002, 09:23 PM Nope, that's not true. If it was crossbones I would not have posted. He had the swords, not crossbones. This was a Pirate - or a wannabe. Check the site here for a view of what a Pirate sticker looks like. That's what was on the rig.
It was a silver rig w/ blue stripes and a huge lunker driving the thang :D And that was a Pirates of the Rubicon sticker on it.
mudpup 10-12-2002, 09:40 PM I bet it was Durham's old rig...I forget the drivers name but he drove the same rig in the ERoCC finals.
Brian1 10-12-2002, 09:51 PM Gerald, was it a jeep? It probably was Durham's old comp rig like mudpup said. They put a pirate sticker on it becuase Durham is an honarary pirate.
EClayton08 10-12-2002, 10:21 PM Heres the pics of the rig, it is one of Durhams competition rigs, but everyone in the crowd though it was Durham.

Gerals, heres the site of my other pics I got posted up. 4x4 Jambo Pics (http://community.webshots.com/user/eclayton08)
GJarrett 10-12-2002, 10:45 PM Some good pics there, Eric. Cool Toy, and that other guy had the kahunas to run his FJ on the course even though he has a sweet classic.

I still can't figure out who's driving the Pirate rig, though; and we're a helluva long way from the Rubicon out here in SC.
4x4Grrl 10-12-2002, 10:54 PM That was Durhams old rig. It was tagged a few years ago at a competition...I think it was because they felt he drove like a pirate and he could hang. It was all in good fun. He is not a member. Not to say that Chris wouldn't be one that would be voted on because I believe he would but he lives in SC and we are CA.
EClayton08 10-12-2002, 10:57 PM That guy needs to take it off then, he struggled on the first section before the big stuff. He timed out and never finished it.
4x4Grrl 10-12-2002, 11:05 PM *LOL* Pirates are not invincible. But you are right. I asked Lance about that at JV.
broncorob 10-12-2002, 11:54 PM Whatever man. I'm pretty sure that's Stacy or Tracy whatever his name is driving Chris' old rig and that mofo gets it hard. He runs it in EROCC too. Maybe you should get informed before you make a stupid newbie statement.

Well it may have been a stupid newbie question, but thats what happened at the rock crawl at 4x4 Jamboree.
I may be a newbie, but I'm a newbie who has been a member longer then you.
snobrder 10-13-2002, 01:47 PM That is Stacy Walker, he drove Chris's older CJ-10 at the second ERoCC event and won it. Then drove this one at the last event and at Anderson.
Keep in mind, he was running a long wheel base on 35's. And yeah, he got a 40 on the first obstacle when he got hung up, but he only got a 3 on the second. Stacy runs it hard everytime. There were alot of people that didn't make it past the first obstacle at all.

Are you the won who rolled on the 2nd obstacle? If so I got pics on my webshots account I posted of it.
snobrder 10-13-2002, 03:03 PM Yup, that was me. I've looked at the pics, they look good, but would have looked better if I hadn't stood on the gas too long :(
EClayton08 10-13-2002, 03:05 PM Was it your rig? It looked a lot like Bigdudes YJ.
snobrder 10-13-2002, 03:18 PM It was mine. Bigdudes has a 4cyl, ton axles and 38's. Mine listed in my tag line was built just for competition.
EClayton08 10-13-2002, 03:20 PM O, I thought it looked a lot like bigdudes.
RickyR 10-14-2002, 07:55 PM I was in the mess for both days.. Not a Pirate....
I was able to finish 9th. I broke one axle in my rear 60 on the last part of the course. I think it was a tough course for a 93" vehicle. There were several times I thought I was going over. Lots of 401 saved me on at least 2 of the close calls.
I will hopefully be fixed this Thursday for Tellico. Anyone else going?
Ricky...seeya...
EClayton08 10-14-2002, 07:57 PM Who won and what kinda rig did he have? I didnt go Sunday.
RickyR 10-14-2002, 08:08 PM I think it was the guy that had his wife spotting. They did a great job. They must have done this before..
Being fom the flat land (Charleston) we will probably have to start practicing on the jettys that enter the harbor.
Anyone have a boat for my jeep?
Funny, but the penalty for out of bounds is 35 feet of salt water. That's worse than 10 points any day.......

EClayton08 10-14-2002, 08:11 PM The red Toyota truck guy who had is wife spotting? They did do a good job, from bout rolling to completeing it without running outside the flags I dont think. He had dual tcases to I saw. All the other Toyotas broke a birf, guess he had some longfields or someting other than a stock birf.
Anyone catch any of the mud results? I had a lot of friends there competing, but I was busy putting on my own event in IL.

snobrder 10-15-2002, 06:43 AM The winner was Jeff Rowland and his wife Yolanda was his spotter. They ran the ERoCC series in unlimited also. Very good team. I'm not sure, but I think they had like 2 or 3 points on the last day.

So that was your rig! I was lookin through my pics when I got them developed and was liek damn thats on nice tacoma, your Tacoma kicks ass, if thast what you call it.
Bow Tie Cowboi 10-16-2002, 09:57 PM Its registered at a 92 toyota.. but humm nothing really toyota about it excpet the body. The engine is out of a Vette, 14sf rear and 10bolt front with 4.88 gears and a 205 t-case.. We have talked about possibly tearing it down and doing a 4 link susp and stepping up to 44's and getting a 14ff since we will need 5.13's..The frame of the truck came from a 81 LWB chevy and the body was mounted with custom body mounts..

riksnacjnow 10-17-2002, 07:41 PM Yeah I have low country on my windshield. That would be cool if you could scan that. Thanks, Rich
Bo tie that wasn't me but I'm sure he will be glad to see it!!
GJarrett 10-21-2002, 05:55 PM Kinda neat to hear that the husband and wife team won.... they were very impressive and worked together like a machine. She knew exactly what to do and where to spot and used the line when needed as best she could to keep him from rolling. It was fascinating watching those two work.
:bounce: I need a wife like that :D
