Was wonderin if anyone has heard of or done this trick before? Was talking with a group of guys and one said he's running duct tape bead lock:confused: I laughed my ass off and thought he was bull shitting me. Well he said he was dead serious about this. Told me you wrap like the outer bead like 3 or 4 times very tight with duct tape and it helps/acts like a bead lock, i believe by make the bead of the tire seal much tighter on the bead. Said he runs 5psi on his 36x12.50x15 TSL SX's on the comp course at Rauch Creek PA, BIG DOGS in VA and has never popped a single bead :eek:

Can anyone else verify this CHEAP TRICK?

LOL... my thoughts to man, but just repeating what was said. had a typo.... dont wrap the bead of the tire, wrap the outer lip of the wheel with the duct tape, so that the bead of the tire fits tighter on the wheel lip.

have seen this for rc crawlers, but never seen anything about being on an actual vehicle????????

Same here I got the idea from rc cars!

I use hot glueback in the day I used to use 3M super weatherstrip adhesive to seal up leaky beads on my junk. It worked great for that, but it was heck to get a tire off the rim later. Based on that experience, I'm saying that it would work without a doubt as a low $ beadlock, but would make for some awful future tire changes.(forget about breaking one down in the field)

Duct taping your beads? Just do it right or don't bother. I know there are some things you do just to get off of a trail. But some things cause more problems than they solve. And when you post something like this, don't get whiney when you don't like the response.

AKA; 'Poor Man Bead Locks' (run a wide tire on a narrow wheel).

I get what the OP is getting at. Increasing the diameter of the bead seating area of the wheel by building it up (in this case, with duct tape).

Problem is, you know what duct tape looks like in 2 or 3 years? Random strands of fibers and powdery adhesive residue. You CAN make the bead area of you wheels more aggressive in order to hold a bead better. Duct tape would be a very temporary means of doing so.

All im fucking asking is would it fucking actually work b/c i didnt believe him and dont think it's work myself. I will make my DIY locks on 1 of the 2 $400,000 OMAX Watejets I run at the machine shop......after I burn my test set off the CNC plasma :flipoff2:

I'm running 13.50's on a 8" wide 17" wheel and lose beads all the time at 10 psi so I don't think much of "poor man's beadlocks"
