My friend has an 83 xr200 that runs kinda shitty, he rebuilt the carb and adjusted it a couple times, and still has issues with it. Anyone have or know where he could get a new or used carb for it? Also looking for the side plates/panels for it. If know reponses, I will get more into depth on the carb symtoms. Thanks,
Jeff

After revvin' up the motor, the idle will stay high, then slowly drop. Also no matter how many times we set the idle, it changes and dies alot (thinks its a 2 stroke!) Runs kinda rich and fouls plugs alot. Today I'm gonna help him adjust the valves, because the motor makes alot of noise. Could also be the cam chain making the noise right?
I've rebuilt a few motorcycle carbs with good success, but this one just does'nt seem to wanna cooperate! Whata you think?

the needle and or needle jet or sometimes called atomizer could be worn. this is the needle attached to the slide. the atomizer is what it slides into. the cam chain is probably worn beyond adjustment which will make alot of noise.

I had a 2-stroke Honda that ran just like that. Turns-out it had a leaky crank seal. It was easy to fix, and solved all the problems with idle and run-on.

I had a 83 XR 200 and its a 4 stroke not 2 stroke. Its quite possible the carb is wore out from slide going up and down over the years. You can buy a brand new one from Sudco be prepared to spend some cash 180$ or so its worth it. Dont adjust the valves if you dont know what you are doing its not a chevy!take it to the dealer or get the book and do it yourself.as far as idle staying hight after letting off the throttle and then fially coming down is like the guy said a possible air leak somwhere you can find it usually by running the bike at idle and spraying carb cleaner around gaskets on motor when rpm takes off you are in the right area and can narrow it down.
