hello all
ive just bought an 84 sj-410 tin top{yes i know about the t-case}what i would really like to know is can i swap frame,s with a 1985 samurai{manufacture date 11/85}an early sammy...then do the 1.6 8v sammy 5 speed/drive train ...the 410,s body is in beautiful shape, it has been garaged for over fifteen years....anyway with the 85 frame there would be zero fabing just bolt everything up and i would have a hard top for the cold cruel indiana winters

hello bill
i want to take a rolling samurai chassis and put a sj-410 tin top body on it...that way i can do all the sammy mods to it without haveing to fab my own frame mounts for the motor and the tranny...the 410 axels and diffs would be hard to find parts for...i have a complete 86 samurai made in 11-85 i just wanted to know if the 410 body will bolt up the samurai frame, with out going thru all kinds of cut this off and relocate 3/16,s of an inch back and 14/64,s farther in then repat this step on all but the drivers side because it a mirror image and has to be upside down and backwards ect....... plus ive never done a body swap before i just hope there close enough to the same to not be an insane chore that i wish i hadnt started ....and besides i gonna have to to a body lift to have the hood clear the carb, the body is off the frame why not change to something i already have parts for ..

Just for a 410 body? It seems kinda....well, too much work for the grill & dash. Or is it a cash flow thing?

hi
my 88 is my daily driver and my only running vehicle at the moment....i have always, until the last 6 months or so kept at least 2 running vehicles....my goal is to have 2 vehicles again that use common parts so that during daily use should 1 go down i can rely on the other 1 to drive....but i want both to use the same parts that way i dont have to have my own private parts store to keep every thing working.....plus i like the ideal of haveing a hard top.......rabidray

I'm pretty sure you're going to be OK with the body mounts lining up but I beleive the tranny tunnel on the 410 is a bit smaller than the 413. If you're going to be fitting a 413 tranny under the 410 tunnel you might run into some dramas. Do a couple of measurements of the tunnel beforehand would be my advice.

I am getting ready to do something similar, only I believe it to be a SJ410 Soft Top model that I am going to put on an 88 model frame...

yes i read your thread with great intererst....the 410 axels are narrower than the 413 but the front springs are 25 inches apart,so if your makeing a trail only rig it seem the 410 setup might flex better than the 413 but i dont know how that would affect overall stability ie off camber, side hill ect......i just want the 413 chassi for parts availibility and less parts inventory ...i kinda wanna make it one size fits all right down to the rims and tyres

Knock the tranny tunnel open and it will fit, there will be a few other minor problems but nothing difficult.

does anyone know if i can use a 3 inch lift instead of a bfh kuz the body lift would cure several ailments at one fell swoop...#1 the tranny tunnel #2 hopefully no dent in hood from the air cleaner on top of the webber, ive read in other post that the hood is actualy 2 inches shorter than the 413 hood and i already have a dent like i described on my 88s hood...#3 im already gonna have the body off the frame so why not..........rabidray

trans tunnel is no prob. Would be far easier to keep sj frame ( i have one). You need one sammy motor mount ( pass side) and tranny mount. Run weber carb so you won't need computer. move spring perches inward to bolt up sammy axles( use sammy drag links).

Hey Ray, I personally took an '85 SJ410 body off, and put it on an '87 Sammi frame. I did do a 3" body lift, just because, and everything lined up perfect. I have picts on my web page. I think it is www.geocities.com/sony1106 It is a shity page, but it was the first that I had ever done. I hope that I helped a little.
