: 406 discs on a drum axle
blacksheep10 04-03-2010, 05:08 AM I searched "406 brakes" and read all the threads. I didn't see where it said if I could put my discs off a 406 like Sceep's on a drum axle.
Is it possible, or would one need boxes and everything to make them fit?

Yup, I just tried it since I had the drum brake portals on my axle and the disk parts sitting in the garage. Trying to upload a couple pics, but my host is not cooperating right now.

Yup it works or yup I'd have to swap boxes.

I'm looking at the pics but can't tell whether you're saying it works or not. It looks like those tabs on the portal box work for the caliper stands.

Yes it works, those are drum brake portal boxes (in pics above).
The disk axle /portal boxes look like this.

How do you mount the Mog calipers on the drum brake axle?

I didn't. I would not be able to use mog calipers even if I wanted too, they are way too big for the 16.5 rims I am using.

so the tabs that I see on your drum boxes are way in the wrong place for even making an adapter for the factory stuff? I guess at the point of making adapters, you just put some chevy 3/4 ton stuff on it and rock out, huh

Yeah, those upper tabs are the pivots for the brake shoes. If I use the drum portals, it's going to take one creative bracket for whatever caliper I use, IMO. The disk portals seem much easier to adapt. I can't even fit chevy stuff, I have to go wilwood or some other aftermarket.

Thanks! sounds like if someone wanted my disc's they'd be taking boxes as well.

Only if they HAD to use the stock calipers (and had zero fab skills). With 17' or bigger rims, you can fit Nissan or F250 twin piston calipers on either portal box.
