Hey Mike, tell your friend to be careful there. A guy on the CCOT board was making some really cool Cruiser shirts a few months ago and was "contacted" by Toyotas lawyers:mad:

Fixxxah-

If that person happens to have an original set of tailights and an original front bumper for a FJ25 it's yours::flipoff2:

does anybody have a pic of the elusive "round emblem", not the thunderbird?

The round emblem was the most common. Should be a lot easier to come by.

I like the t-shirt idea, Georg, next time you come by my way bring that cool digital camera and take a few shots of the emblem on my 25. I know a guy that runs a t-shirt shop.

I beg to differ.

the t-bird are more common for:
-the FJ25's sold with that emblem in the US were 2+ times the number sold with the 'toyota'.
-the toyota emblems were robbed far more often because they were cooler than the t-bird.

Every FJ25 owner I know is searching for the 'toyota' badge not the t-bird.

Interesting....I did not know that. Most of the 25s that I've seen have the round emblem. Of course except for the two 25s in my back yard I've never seen one except in pictures, mostly Toyota sales brochures from that period. I've seen pics of the one posted above and the one you all see in the Spectre book, I believe that belongs to CruiserNerd, backeast.

Would you happen to know how many FJ 25s were actually imported to the States ? I've heard there were very few, but I've never found anyone who could actually verify the number.

One of my 25s was a USA model and the other one, that I got from George Odell in Nevada, originally entered the States from south of the border. The VIN tag is all in spanish.

BTW, I'm very happy to have all my emblems, I'd hate to be the poor guy who had to search for one. For that matter try to find any parts for a 25, good luck ! And don't buy into that crap about early FJ40 parts being interchangeable, because I know from experience that very few parts are, especially when you get into the original running gear, it is unique to 25s only.

ALSO BTW, how many FJ25 owners do you know? I would like to contact them to exchange info. I have found very little written on the model and it would be nice to maybe start a list to do a little network. I am finding this whole FJ25 retsoration thing to be quite a learning experience, and trust me, I learn somthing new everyday.

Madsen, Merideth, Asti, Decker, Ward, Kurt D (Tucson), "woodys auto salvage" in N wyo, Eric Corbett, Toyota -Torrance, some guy in Prescott, AZ (who threw his axles out) and a few others I can't think of just yet.

I heard 12 for 1958, 58 imported for 1959. I am sure J Ward knows the specs.

as for parts
all mechanical should be replaced (really, all 1967 and earlier should just sh*%t can the drivelines and upgrade.

trim is the key. Have it look like a FJ25, have it drive like a 1981.

That sounds about right, I heard there was only about 160 total for all that were imported. That came from a reliable source.

Have it look like a 25 ?

That almost sounds shameful!

Oh well, to each his own. I'll keep modifying my FJ40 and work on restoring my 25s. Thats my goal. ;)

Come awn, guys:( This is such a tease - anyone got a pic of said round emblem? I was allowed to gaze upon the "Thunderbird" emblem for a modest fee on Saturday in Pioneer, CA :jester: , but have yet to espy the veritably holy grail emblem of the 25 series

Just when I'm knee deep in T-Bird emblems, everybody wants an oval one. I'm seriously thinking of getting some T-Birds cast, but I don't want to get stuck with the things.

Krusty, you could try to see if this part number for the oval is still in Toyota's system: BJ25 59102, otherwise you're S.O.L.

Rick, please keep preaching that the original FJ25 drivetrain is crap! Anyone removing said manure is welcome to send it to my place, I'll pick up the shipping. ;)

I found the japanese swap meet photo of the 'toyota' badge (NOS in guys hand). If someone wants to post it, contact me offlist and I shall forward to ye (mrwagon@tritel.net).

cruisernerd-
most people have tossed out their FJ25 spares. I can rob the junk yard here if you need something like brake cylinders, masters, etc. It's pretty picked over.
hood is gone
steering wheel is gone
has only 1/2 of hard top side and bi fold gate
one dutch door is gone
front doors (slider window) are marginal
aprons are gone
front seats are gone
instrument cluster has been sun exposed for 15+ years

Could be a Japan-only thing. I've seen (and photographed) one of the few oval FJ25 emblems in the US, James Asti owns it. I tried trading him for it at one point, then tried buying it, but he knows it's made of "unobtanium" and wouldn't budge. Later I heard Jonathan Ward had tried to buy it from Asti for a lot more than I offered, also without success.

FWIW, one of the pictures I took of that emblem was a REALLY tight close-up and it was published in Latitud 4x4 magazine in Venezuela a couple of years ago. I don't have it scanned, but I know there's a hard-copy somewhere. Maybe that could be used for the t-shirt?
