: Dam Dana 30!

Yep, It's definetly time to start figuring which axle Im gonna replace my D30 with. I broke another axle today. This time it was much worse than the last. Instead of breaking at the U-joint, it broke off inside the diff, inside the ARB. This caused some damage to the ARB as well. I hope I can salvage the locker. What do you guys think? Also check out the carnage on the shaft. What a day. Thanks to all that helped me out today. Even though I had spare shafts, it didn't really matter. What a pain in the ass to have to pull the locker out when the axle breaks inside. To top it off, I thought I had all the shims in order so I could reinstall the whole thing myself, turns out I find a couple in the bottom of the drain pan when I was emtying out the gear oil. Man! Heres the pic of the aftermath.

Anyone experienced this with an ARB?

Someone just told me that if I swapped in a 44 for the front, that I wouldn't gain any axle strength? True?

A little I guess. Not enough to make me go 44. I'd go straight to a Dana60.;)

you would gain axle strength, but the U-joints are the same as in your TJ 30.

Sorry I cant help you, but I finally busted a dana 30 shaft yesterday:( I was stuck on a waterfall onannihilator, and pulled out the winch to help me out, but it loaded the front up too much and ended up snapping the ears in half:eek: U-joint didnt even break:rolleyes: Time to find a 60 I guess:flipoff2:

That might help. Or you might just break a bigger axel. Like I did on that same waterfall 2 weeks ago. :flipoff2:

Go 60 and be done with it!!!!

So which 60's go under a TJ with the least problems. I dont care to chop them down. Full width would probably be better anyway.

Ford '78-'79 F-250/ F-350 front HP60. I've heard of both 67" wms-wms and 70" wms-wms. Not sure if there were different widths available, or which is true; you can use the rear too.

If you don't wanna shorten them, you could run a set of Hummer beadlocks to keep the width down some. I think the Hummer beadlocks are ~7" of backspacing, but not sure if they would match the Ford 8 lug bolt pattern.

Please correct me if I missed anything.;)

How much would you guys pay for this setup? And do you think its worth it for the ease of just slapping it under my TJ to do it?

D30 out of a 01 TJ with 11,500 miles. It has a ARB, 4:56 gears, Warn hub conversion with the alloy inners and Currie's new heavy duty steering set-up. I can quaranty that mine is not bent due to the Skyjacker craddle that has been on it since it was new. The locker and gears were insalled when the Jeep was brand new and the hub conversion went on last winter. The guy wants $1600.

Not willing to "build" a 30 I spent $225 on a LR for it and $50 for a complete axel to get the gears. I refuse to put any more in the 30. I'll go 60 or 9" with different knucks. Anyhting is better than blowing $$$$ on the 30.

Been doing some calling around, and talking to some people today. Looks like I may be able to get a 9" rear and D44 front, with 5.13's and forget which lockers for @ $2400. I will then have to figure out where I need to put Coil perches, and other brackets. So there is some fabbing needed. I also can purchase from Drivetrain Direct, a D44, w/ ARB and 4.56's, custom made inners, Standard Warn Stubs, and Warn Hubs for @ $2600. The only thing I would have to do is machine out the inside of the rotors, then put it all on. Which way would you go?

Same one. I spanked the first one and broke on the second. Then I drove over Dion's highlift. And he cried like a girl.......or maybe that was me crying...I forget

Yeah, that second one is deceiving:p Looks simple enough, bu Out of three rigs, 1 broke(me) 1 tipped on his side(JackA)Toy on 38.5"s, and the other got through Ok, with the help of a highlift(AZRckCrawler)Zuk on 37"s I love that Dana 300 though, it fawkin rules:D So when are we going to hit a trail together?
