: 1977 chevy dana 4 link questions
azbbccamaro 04-04-2010, 11:14 PM ok so i am a newbie to this forum and i have already dug for pics on what i am looking for and awnsers for my questions and so far nothing.... so here i go.i have a 77 chevy with a dana 44 in the front and 12 bolt rear ( normal deal) i am looking into building a 4 link for the front in order to get more articulation out of the truck. i dont go rock crwaling or anything, but i do a lot of back woods driving and i want to go any where i want to go in it. i have seen some of the products that blue torch sells and some of the pics of stuff that they build. what i am trying to get at is what is there in the way of trusses for the 44, what is the best link set up, what size tubing is used< dom or moly?, just a general what would you do or have you seen.... i know where i am going just not the yellow brick road to get there.....thx

You don't need a 4 link for more articulation, a good set of leaves will get you everything you want :smokin:

a b52 kit or home grown 52 swap will give you more than you will ever be able to use.
azbbccamaro 04-05-2010, 12:08 PM where do i find a b52 kit and what does it involve?

52 inch springs swap (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=52+inch+spring+swap)
b52's from diy4x (http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=120)
azbbccamaro 04-05-2010, 09:13 PM ok so how much of a lift will it give me... right now the truck has 4 inches curve on the front spring and 4 inch block on the rear. there is also a 3 inch lift on the body. i would love to get ride of the body lift and have the truck sit just like it is...

did you even read about the 52 spring swap? :homer:
Once the rig is back on its feet, bust out the measuring tape to see how its current stance compares with what you started with. If nothing else, you'll be able to answer the ubiquitous "hey man, how much lift does that thing got?" question on trail runs. Personally, I didn't bother to measure... IMO, if the tires fit under max compression, the answer to that question is "enough". Just eyeballing it though, I'd say I got 4-4.5".
azbbccamaro 04-06-2010, 07:51 AM rough read it. got the just of it.... but by the question i take it i should read it again which i will do tonight.
azbbccamaro 04-06-2010, 11:39 PM ok..... so the dumb ass didnt use a tape to find out the lift diffrences..... does anyone know what exactly they are? and what is the proper shakle angle? i think i have more questions now then i did before.....

Chill, that "dumb ass" gave you plenty of useful information for free.
Lift varies based on how heavy the truck is, what condition the 52's are in and how many leaves are in the spring pack.
General amount of lift for a full bodied truck is 4-5" with a stock 1/2 ton 52" spring pack.
As for shackle angle, 45-30 degrees (i.e. the shackle is more horizontal than vertical) is probably ideal for a softer ride and more flex.
azbbccamaro 04-07-2010, 07:44 PM thanks for the info...sorry about the ass whole comment... i was realy tired last night and it was REALY late. what do you find 52 inch aprings on? he said half ton chevy trucks but mine is 46 inches long...sooo, idk

Try that B52 link again and then smack yourself. :D
Aidenfox 04-07-2010, 09:40 PM I would go with the 52 leaf spring idea found an old k5 rip the rear leafs out and put them in the front of ur truck sounds easy but there will be cutting and moving the shackle mounts around

from CK5
The average K5 owner has traditionally matched these with aftermarket lift springs up front to level things out. This is an acceptable way to raise a full-size, but what if there was a cheaper alternative that added lift (4-5"), increased front-end flex and could be installed at home by the average Joe with nothing more exotic than the standard selection of tools?
Enter the 52" spring swap! 52s are stock K5 rear springs and are commonly found in parts yards, on 4x4 web sites or, if you plan on running other-than-stock springs in the rear suspension, the back of your very own K5!
