How many of you guys like a challenge???

How many of you consider yourself to be hardcore wheelers?

If your interested in the harder rockcrawling lines, you need to come check out the new cut on Rattlerock at Windrock. We have been cutting a new trail adjacent to Rattlerock and will be opening it up soon and would like to have a group of guys that would like to try some challenging lines for the first day riding the new trail, to see what we can accomplish.

If your interested PM me and I will give you the details of when the trail will be open for riding and when the Grand opening will be. Hope to hear from you guys!

Yes the price is $17 a day and worth it IMO.

Rattlerock is simply the best trail Ive ridden. its has everything from sick bonus lines and some of the best crawling in the south. Thiers lines that are open on Rattlerock that I have never seen anyone make it up and the new lines are even sicker!

The new trails location is not being release at this time because it isnt open yet and we dont want someone getting on it and ruining it for everyone. It will be open soon and its close to the parking lot.

I hope you are being sarcastic. $17 per person per day is a fair price. If you cant afford that. You picked the wrong hobby. everywhere we go is $50 per weekend or $20 per day plus a small fee for passengers.

My wheeling crew is booked monthly until July or August. I will discuss this with them on our next trip and see you late summer or early fall.

How about parking for 3-4 motorhomes in the 40ft range with trailers? all rigs are trail only. IIRC you cannot camp in the parking area anymore. As another option where is the closest Wal Mart. We can stay there overnight. As long as the it is not posted as no overnight parking.

Everyones complaning about the cost but $17 a day is not bad.

Just like ftoy507 said, most places charge $50 a weekend, would it sound better if they said $34 a weekend?
Hell an annual pas is just $88,thats almost what you pay for one weekend somewhere else and Harlans cost to ride will go up. a couple years ago it was free to ride at Harlan.

I would honestly pay double that to wheel at a good park/property.

Its the Per person fee that constitutes the expensive part. Take a family up there and it gets expensive quick. Per rig fees make more sense but I'm ok with $17/person since its normally just me anyway. I'd say we will try to get a group to come up one weekend. Just down the road from us and looks fun. Its great you guys are working on that park. Looking forward to seeing it.

Good to hear....Have a lot of your friends post up. The more push and requests we have for new trails, the more likely we are to get them.

Rockcrawl, Let everyone know where to direct their support for new trails.

For those that have never been, the potential for Windrock is HUGE. With some work and time invested, I believe it can give Harlan a run for its money....BUT, support (large number of requests) is needed.

On a side note: I saw everyone bitching when Tellico closed, and saying they would pay lots and lots to have it open/ride there (so would I).....So, $88 a year is not bad at all. "The Man" is trying to close more and more of our riding grounds, or restrict our areas. Lets not get cought up bitching about prices, and lets start showing more support of the areas we still have open.....and try to make them as useable as we can.

Just my opinions, if you don't like em....poke your eyes out so you dont have to read em :flipoff2::D

Right now we are trying to establish a reletionship with Coal creek,so that in the future if we find other areas that look good, it will be easier to get them approved. As far as what people can do now,you can come help us cut the trails, its hard work but if we want new trails thats what it will take. When we go to cut the new trail,I am going to post it up and anyone thats has a chainsaw, trimmer, citters, whatever will be encouraged to come. I will be announcing the trail cutting day real soon.

BTW.. you can get to the trail in your 4X4 tow rig, its not hard or you can ride with someone else.

Windrock is my back yard riding place so I buy 2 passes. 1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend and its well worth it, but I do agree on price for per day or weekend. Being part of there busniess they need to be competitive with other parks to stay in business. Fee for the rig and possibly a small fee for passengers or whatever. For atv riding windrock is hard to beat. More trails than you know what to do with. But for crawlers it needs alot of work to get up to where other parks are all ready at. We are working hard to change that so be on the look out for updates.

39 is not railtrail. It goes for a while and then forks. To the locals or people that have known windrock for a while at the fork to the left is called Cadalic Hill which takes you up the mountain back to the gravel road. Its a medium climb in my opionion. To the right of the fork is where Rail Trail starts.

We got good news this mourning. It looks like we will be able to cut the new trail this Sunday. I doubt there will be a guided ride on the new trail for trailfest. But it will be flaged and its off of Trail 16. So find Trail 16 on the map, then you will be able to find the new trail. One important thing for Trailfest. If the weather keeps up the way its been, meaning no rain and your not very familiar with the trails I would definately get a map and plan your rides to avoid the gravel roads because it will be extremely dusty on the gravel roads. You can cover the whole mountain by trails but if your not careful you can end up on a gravel road for miles and miles and it will suck some dusty balls for sure.

macm715
04-15-2010, 12:04 PM
thats why we were tryin to ride with some people who knew how to avoid the dusty balls. we dont ride there much even though we are close im only about 1hour away so its close but dont know the trails so we are tryin to find some more stuff to ride there. we also drive it like we stole it so hardcore is good for us

I agree that's it's pricey when you have more than 2. They should look at changing the rate system, but they do it for liability, and everyone has a permit. $5 a passenger works great.

Been to both. IMHO I think Windrock/Coal Creek is better now than Harlan. Rode for miles and miles at Harlan with few rock crawling challenges. I thought Rattle Rock has more than all of Harlan, including running Mason Jar and the Lions Den.

Well the new trail at Windrock is open!

The trail was climbed today and it is bad ass and hard. Anything under a 39 inch tire is going to be rough on this trail.

The trail does not top out at this time but it will in the future. The trail makes a loop and has somewhat of a bailout trail on the left, that also serves as the temporary way back down.

STAY OUT OF THE CREEK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRAIL.

The red is the way up and the white is the future top out and the black is the way back down. The intersection of trail 2 and 16 is marked on the picture, to help you find the trail. Good luck!

You should hit 39, then take a right turn up hill on Cadillac. Once you get up to the gravel road take a right. Stay on the gravel road for a few minutes then when you get to 3 take a left down one of several lines and go to the right at the bottom of the hill. Then take your next left which is the new shortcut to Rail Trail. RT has gotten pretty good (rough). Rail Trail will take you up and to the left by the big Coal pile and over to 3 which you take a right on and run back up hill. As said earlier, there are several good lines back up to the gravel road.
