: Tellico Trip in December
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-13-2002, 05:57 PM Hey guys, I just wanted to invite anyone who wants to join us in a trip up Tellico Mtn on Dec 18th and possibly 19th. There is a group of Rangers and Toyota's that will be running. We are not all ultimate rigs. Wee will run moderate trails. Largest truck is on 38's, smallest is on 32's.
For more info please email me at SHTUPNFISH@aol.com
Also, we have one cabin in Murphy, NC and are looking into getting a second. It is like $50 for 3 nights for four people to split a cabin. Let me know if interested. We are gonna be there Dec 17-20th.
John Deere Ranger 10-13-2002, 06:58 PM hummmmmmm tempting very tempting.... that means i gotta finish my junk ......... time will tell
patooyee 10-13-2002, 07:09 PM I might be up for it, assuming my junk is done. (Which it WILL be, come hell or highwater.) Also assuming it's OK for me to have 44" tires. :D
J. J.
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-13-2002, 07:34 PM HELL YEAH!!! Tires are never tall enough right???
BTW, we need someone with a winch!!!
snoop dogg 10-13-2002, 07:46 PM i got the winch....just need a line now. Im VERY interested, just like the others...have to finish, well start my junk back up. Should be done soon though.

2002 FX4 Ranger 10-14-2002, 08:07 AM MAn, with that set up, it should not take long or much to make it a great rig. New springs, tires, gears, and a welder.

Bawahahahaha  Sounds like you would be using it all weekend too
Hey JJ why don't you come ride with us. We are planning a fun run full of comp guys. Durham, his spotter Tim, SpaceGhost, me, Shupe, Buddy, and more. We all just want to get out and wheel without any cones :D I'll pM you when we work out details. Probably be like a month or so.
Ken Carter / BRUISER 10-14-2002, 10:01 AM Just to let you know there is a group of us going Nov 1st and 2nd.
We will have everything from zuk on 33's to cj's on 38's and in between.
But hell ya keep us updated to when you are going, I may be able to make a trip.

I won't rule it out as I like to ride in the winter. But I don't know if riding in Tellico, during December, with a group that doesn't even have winches will be very good for actual wheeling of my vehicle :D
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-14-2002, 10:59 AM There will be a few with winches. I am debating ordering one myself. I built my bumper and know it will hold one. It even has the braces and holes for a winch. I just need to figure out which to get.
Does anyone have an opionon on this??? I was looking at a 6,000lb warn. The truck itself only weighs 2600lbs.

bigjeepinYJ 10-14-2002, 01:04 PM Hey I am from Southern, IN and might definetly be able to come up for that trip. We have a Winch that could help out. Thanks send me some more info when you find out more.
Grim Reaper 10-14-2002, 01:37 PM You guys should run trail 11 or 12 :)
All joking aside.......The Easy trails (4, 5, and 6) might not be passable at that time. My understanding is they are supose to start building the bridge on rough water crossing (not so rough now, you could do it in a VW) and Fains Ford mid November. It is possible that Fains Ford will not be passable durring the build so no loop out to 6. The typical easy route is in 4 and out 6. Might have to go in 4 and come out 5. 5 is about paved so they can get the Duces's and dozers in to Fains. It is pretty well like trail 1.
As for the winch question.....Don't even bother with anything less than 8K. Line speed is King at Tellico. I would stick with a 8274 or a HS9500. Twice my butt has been saved from rolls by line speed at Tellico. Once was on Guard rail and if it had not been for the 8274 on my buds truck pulling me it would have been all over. It cought me up on two wheels after the truck luched forward and put some slack in the cable and pulled me back down.
My Club goes in January every year. couple years ago we were eating lunch at Fains and it started to snow. 2 hours later we were sledding in our trucks down 6 in about 6 inches of snow!
Here is slick rock in the snow.

Sounds good assuming I can egt the damned thing done! I'm pulling out all the stops to get it there! I'm abotut o make my last order for DOM.

350 Samurai 10-14-2002, 02:30 PM Cool pics, Reaper. I love it when it snows up there. That kinda explains why you don't see as many buggies out here as you do on the west coast.
We have a group going November 28 - December 1. This has become kind of an annual event, getting larger every year. Everyone is welcome to come.
I'll just keep my eye on this thread and when you all decide when you're going, I'll come up. I'm kind of flexible seeing as how I only live about an hour and a half away.:flipoff2:
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-14-2002, 05:41 PM 350 --- Sounds like you have a sick rig!!!
Odds are here is how it will work. We will split up into two groups due to the amount of people coming. One group will consist of the BIG boys with experienced drivers. The other group will be the smaller guys and unexperienced drivers.
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-15-2002, 05:38 AM Bump!
Gotta keep this one alive.
StudNuts 10-15-2002, 06:39 AM Im interested in going. Im planning on the TJ being ready by then...
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-15-2002, 10:17 AM Cool!
Anyone, feel free to email me for more info. Also, I have a mailing list with updates. Let me know if you would like to be placed on it.
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-15-2002, 09:23 PM Bump for Tellico!
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-16-2002, 06:43 PM Bump to top. This run cant die.
If i can get my front suspension done, i'll be there.
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-16-2002, 07:12 PM Jeeper, do you have the 304 in you CJ??? I still have a few things laying around from our 78 CJ-7. Also, how are those 7.17 gears??? Those things have to have neck snapping torque!
snoop dogg 10-16-2002, 07:35 PM yeah jeeper (mote) do you still have that 304 in it:flipoff2:
Jayrockn7 10-17-2002, 08:06 PM You guys are going to freeze your balls off! Wheeling there in the snow is fun but it's also a winch fest for unexperienced drivers. OH don't ever put anything under a 8K# winch on a trail rig. Off-roading isn't a cheap sport so don't be cheap when it comes to buying parts. The bridges won't be a problem their not going to start on them until (maybe) next year. The easiest run for smaller rigs is to go up to 4 on trail 1 then come down 5, if that doesn't take all day then try 6, that trails slick as shit in the rain just try GETTIN IT in the snow:eek:. have fun guys and be careful. :flipoff2:
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-23-2002, 03:02 PM Bump TTT
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-26-2002, 02:30 PM TTT
Come on people. I know there are more wanting to ride.
2002 FX4 Ranger 10-27-2002, 12:10 PM LOL
I guess I worded that wrong. The second group will be the guys that arent as hardcore as others about the sport but still are very capable. We will have experienced trail leaders on both teams and capable trucks on both teams. The second team will just take to the lighter trails.
GJarrett 10-27-2002, 12:19 PM I'm probably gonna be able to make it; but need to check my calendar to see if that's a visitation weekend or not to go see my son.
If you're gonna split up and send out a "smaller group with inexperienced drivers" into Tellico, it may be the spring thaw before they get out, LOL :D
m016324 10-28-2002, 07:23 AM As long as my truck is together I'll be done for at least one of these runs. Need to fix stuff though. Should have everything together this weekend just don't know if I'm up for a ten hr drive each way this weekend.
-ben
I've got a winch too:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
bad80cj-7 10-28-2002, 07:55 AM I would love to get up there with the old heep! One question Do they check for registration and insurance?
jeepguru7 10-28-2002, 09:06 AM I might be interested in a trip that W/E. Just depends on how things go. Will ya'll be camping or hotel sleeping? It's pretty cold up there in Dec. I spent one night there last year when the temp at 8:00am was 9 degrees! Even our eggs froze. When it's gets closer put up another post and I'll see if I can go. Oh I'll definatly be running with the bigger group. Anyone up for Guardrail in the snow? Better have a winch! Later

Hmm, I wonder if I have seen your ass around here in AU? I don't drive mine on the street too often so I would doubt it if you have seen me... anyway, to answer your question, No, they do not check for registration or insurance.... if you ever feel like going to Tellico, PM me... and some buddies and I are heading up there Nov 28th or 29th and staying a few days. Let me know if you are interested.
2002 FX4 Ranger 11-14-2002, 05:28 PM BUMP TTT
1 month left!!!!
GJarrett 11-18-2002, 01:25 PM I just noticed that your dates are NOT on a weekend. There's no way I could take off in mid-week.
2002 FX4 Ranger 11-18-2002, 01:42 PM Alright guys, ONE month from today!!!
Dont forget to bring trash bags!!!
2002 FX4 Ranger 11-28-2002, 07:32 PM Here is the new thread with the info. If anyone needs anything, please let me know.

pavelow 11-28-2002, 08:19 PM bump for ya......wish I was going.
2002 FX4 Ranger 11-28-2002, 08:26 PM We are gonna go again next year I think. If we dont goto Tellico, we are going to Paragon or Moab. You can join us on one of those.
Thanks for the bump!
SuperRunner 12-03-2002, 02:31 PM Just moved to NC from utah, and wanted to check out the local NC trials, but it seems that this is in the middle of the week. Do people not have jobs around here? Waz up with that? I doubt I can make it, but we will see.
SittonHigh 12-03-2002, 02:52 PM BTT for ya. Wish I could go, but I just hope to have mine done by Spring. I could always take my wife's truck, but I don't like breaking stuff or being one of the little guys.:D Besides she wont let me.:(
snoop dogg 12-03-2002, 02:59 PM Is there an open seat any of yalls trucks that are goin to be up there??
Hobsdaddy 12-03-2002, 04:27 PM SuperRunner,
Now that you live on the East Coast you should actually get to use your turbo on the rocks for a change. Definitely check out tellico.
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-03-2002, 05:37 PM Superrunner ---- Most of us are out for either winter break from college or get that week long paid vacation from work! :D :D :D
It would be great if you could make it! I dont know if there will be any open seats. A lot of people are wanting to ride. Too many people are scared to run it I guess. But, you can always show up at McDonalds and see if there is an open seat. I think there should be one or two still open.
bad80cj-7 12-04-2002, 06:11 AM All I can say is I am jealous! If there was anyway for me to go I would. I really want to meet up with some guys from this side of the country. I have wheeled the west coast trails but none of the east coast trails. I haven't gotten to ride with anyone other than myself for the past couple of years. Someone call my boss and tell him that I am desperately needed in Tellico on those dates! I have one Question why the middle of the week? Other than college break? I hope everyone has a great trip! Take some pics for the rest of us. :D

you can go to tellico pretty much any weekend through out the year and there will be groups of people there.... you never know who you will run into there......we need a good trip in march or april...
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-04-2002, 08:42 AM Since I was the one who put everything together, those were the only dates that I could make it. I will be there from the 16th to the 20th. :D :D :D
You could tell your boss that you are in dire need of an operation for a life threatening disease call "dontwheelenoughgitis" formerely known as "Flatlanders Syndrome". Explain that this is a very important procedure and that the only doctor that can preform this procedure will be in NC on Dec 18th and 19th and it is impecable that you go see him, as he is only on the east coast once a year and if you wait for next year, it could be too late!!!
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-06-2002, 07:36 AM BUMP TTT
bad80cj-7 12-06-2002, 09:47 AM You guys have fun and take plenty of pics! Myabe my wife will come down with a bad cold and I need to stay home with our son. Maybe still possible, my wife is thinking about going out of town on the 17th to Indiana. I might be able to sneek out of town. Time to start thinking about how I can get a tow hitch on the front of the CJ-5. Oh yea I have a winch on open diffs. Maybe I'll weld up the rear? Work to do!
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-06-2002, 09:00 PM BRING IT!!!
If you need a place to stay, let me know.
bad80cj-7 12-09-2002, 06:04 AM Well thre wife ahs given me the OK to go! Now I have to work on the boss man! Thank god for never taking a sick day. I have some coming. I have a lot to do before I go but I have the motivation. Plcae to stay? Tent to cold for most people we will see what I come up with. email me you phone # so I can call you about more details. Thanks for getting me motivated! salexander@bellmicro.com Time to get the shit ready!
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-11-2002, 09:59 PM Steve --- lookiong forward to seeing you there.
Bump TTT
patooyee 12-12-2002, 04:11 AM Sorry, doesn't look like I'll be able to make it. I'll be just wrapping things up with the Jeep instead of wheeling it. Wish I could be there.
J. J.
bad80cj-7 12-12-2002, 05:25 AM I'm almost ready! I have a few things left to do to the Jeep, them pack tools and what not. I look forward to meeting everyone that makes it.
madmarx 12-12-2002, 05:48 AM Does anybody who is going have a spare seat for a passenger? I won't have my cage finished by then..
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-12-2002, 06:33 AM I dont know about seats. I can only speak for myself and I am full. But, you dont need a cage if you run the easy trails with us?
We are running up 4 and down 6.
bad80cj-7 12-12-2002, 07:09 AM If I make it You can ride with me. I'm going solo! But be prepared to hold onto the oh shit bar! Call me or email salexander@bellmicro.com or 1-800-291-2070 ext 6126
madmarx 12-12-2002, 07:46 AM Bad80, I just emailed you.
Ranger, If I am taking my CJ to Tellico, I am riding the hard trails. 38's, welded 60's and full hydro steering are a little overkill for 4 and 6, and at times are nowhere strong enough for 2 and 11 etc. :D See y'all next week
GJarrett 12-25-2002, 11:51 AM Well, what happened? Trip report? Pics?
2002 FX4 Ranger 12-25-2002, 08:17 PM Trip was a blast. I blew the stoked the motor in my trail rig before I even left FL. So, I wheeled my DD/tow rig. Tellico is a great place and am definately turning this into an annual thing. Next year however it will be better organized and on a weekend for thos who work. My pics are not up yet.
bad80cj-7 12-26-2002, 05:39 AM I have some pics if someone wants to post them. We had a blast! Not as cold as I thought it would be.
John Deere Ranger 12-26-2002, 07:32 AM email em to me i'll post em......
bad80cj-7 12-26-2002, 07:36 AM You have mail!
